Celing fan control using X10

Hi

I am a complete novice on the topic of X10 but have done some reading on the topic and keen to give it a try. It just so happens we are looking to install a ceiling fan (which also has a light) in one of our bedrooms....is it possible to have the ceiling fan and light controlled using X10? I know that some models of ceiling fan come with a remote control but since I would be looking to use X10 more extensively I would prefer to go down that route.

Thoughts anyone?

Are the fan and light wired separately, or is it one connection?
Can you show the wiring diagram, or a link online to your product.

It is the Mayfair Polished Brass from this company...(under "42 to 46 inch fans")

I presume the light switch is seperate as it is in kit form which can be added to the fan seperately.

You can use x10 on these bits of kit.
You need to bear in mind that the fan will be bi-directional, but x10 will only
control the supply to it, not the direction. This will still have to be altered at
the fan itself.
The light will take its power from the fan too. That means you will not have separate control of fan and light unless you alter the wiring in the rose of the
fan.(assuming all the wiring is done in the rose).
Basically, if you leave the switches on the fan, in the on position, then you
can control remotely with x10. Otherwise, for separate control you will have to
modify the internal wiring of the equipment if it is accessible.

Yes this makes sense. The part which is not ideal is that the light and fan will not be seperately controllable without digging into the wiring...I had intended on using this in the baby room so I wanted to be able to turn the light off but keep the fan running (an perhaps even have a timer such that the fan turns off at a set time).

If I did use it what X10 units would I need to buy (remember I am a complete novice!)

THIS will do the job mate.
Assuming you can get access above the fan light. Mount it on a joist local to the
fan and connect up.

If you can actually get at the internal wiring of the Fan/Light, then you can use
THIS unit for on/off/dimming of the light too.
