Russound question.

I have a Russound multiroom setup.
Cav 6.6 / SMS 3

My question is these 2 units get very hot, is there a way of programming these units to shutdown & startup at specific times to allow them to cool down.

Example:
Boot up 06.00hrs, shutdown 10.00hrs
Boot up 18.00, shutdown 23.00hrs

At the moment my units are on 24hrs a day & get very very hot.

yes would just sit ontop or behind to blow some air through and will work well. I did once in the past mount a fan inside a powerfull club amp and connected it to the internal transformer, obviously this would void any warranty but it was older than a year and an extra 200mA from a large transformer wasn't exactly putting it under strain.

hello

I would agree that the addition of a fan would be your best option- because there will be times when you want the system and it has been programmed to be off. Plus all the equipment is in a seperate room.. so no need to worry about the fan noise

BUT, if you still want to work with a timer solution- smarthomeusa.com has some options:

this kit comes with the timer/controller, as well as 3 appliance modules (to switch off each part of your system) for only $63. also support two on/off times per day, as per your example
http://www.smarthomeusa.com/ShopByMa.../Item/HLTKITA/

you can check their site for others, im sure there are many.. just search for timers. I always buy from smarthomeusa.com - nothin but goodness so far

Sirees,

I have setup a CAV6.6 and love it. I was thinking of purchasing an SMS3 - how do you find it?

Regards

Fantastic m8 I use it all the time with 3 different music streams available. I did think of uprading the keypads to UNO TS2 colour touchscreen but it's not worth the money IMO.

Go for it you won't be dissapointed.

Out of interest, how do you keep your CAV 6.6 cool ? mine gets really hot.

I have my CAV 6.6 in a 15U 19" rack with an ST2 Tuner and other components (SKY, DVD, Patch Panel, Switch/Hub/Modem). I have attached a diagram in pdf.

The space below the CAV is empty - and I left the back cover off the rack - while the CAV does produce some heat I don't think its in danger of overheating.

BTW - Is there any way to link the SMS to a Windows PC? What format does it store its audio/video in?
