| measure/template
As a professional track and blind fitter, i'd recomend you template the bay rather than measure it. Its not an easy process but will allow you to see exactly where you want the track to run and when supplying a template to your supplier it will mean that he will have to supply exactly as per the template, none of he "I thought you meant this or that" when just giving measurements. When deciding where you want the track to be positioned take into account where the curtains are to be running, ie: if they are to be full length then do they need to miss a cill or radiator below and how does the track finish at each end. As to the template itself, my experience has shown me that either brown paper or lining paper (wallpaper) is best to work with (lining paper although more easily torn shows drawn lines best).
Start by using pieces of paper that are easy to handle (unless its a very small bay, its hard to do this in one piece) and overlay them using tape over the joins untill you ave covered the area to be templated. then simply draw onto this where you want the track to run. Have a look at the spec of he track and decide whether you want to show the face of the track (where the curtains hang from) or the centre line of the track (on some systems where the fixings go) and clearly state on the template what it is the line shows. I am of course presuming that you have realised i meant you to template the ceiling area and NOT the floor as this is where the track is to go! Also sho on the template how it is to be viewed, ie: from underneath and which end is left and which is right. As a final thought if this particular track can have a motor at either end, give some thought to how you will run electrics to it and when you've made your decision, show which end the motor is on the template.
