Hi

I have obtained a set of LCD lights (from Ikea) that I wish to use to back light my flat screen TV.

I wish to automate the process so the lights come on when I switch on the TV via my Harmony 655 remote.

I have purchased a remote controlled plug which will allow me to switch on/off remotely but cannot intergrate the remote control with my Harmony.

The Harmony is IR and the plug RF.

Any ideas on how I can intergrate the control of my lights with the Harmony? Would I be correct in thinking that the new 895 would do the job (albeit at more expense than I can probably justify)

I have read through the forum and am aware that you can purchase RF to IR converters but am baffled about how they should be set up.

An idiots guide would be much appreciated..........

you need an IR plug matey or a plug with IR option without knowing what plug you have its impossible to say if its suitable

Thanks for the prompt reply (especially on a Bank Holiday Monday!)

The plug I have definitely does not have IR - where could I purchase a IR plug? (will also Google it)

What ir socket did you purchase from lets automate?
I have a similar set up only using led deck lights from Homebase and Pill lighting from Habitat.
I was considering using ir remote control to switch on/off as you just have but can't see the ir socket on the lets automate site.

I do exactly the same thing with my Ikea plasma lights via my pronto remote.

This is also done via X10 and kit from lets automate, I use an RF appliance module and a IR to X10 converter on top of one of my speakers. The module is part of a larger automation system where Homeseer will turn the plasma lights off at 12am (just in case I fall asleep!!) and also works in macros via RF.

Thks for the info/link, but slightly confused, is the the X10 appliance module controlled directly by your ir remote?

I thought all X10 modules were rf controlled and to control them by ir would require an X10 IR7243 module.

It;s getting more expensive by the minute but at least I can automate other appliances if I purchase more sockets......

Let's think---------- green lcd lights behind the hifi speakers and blue behind the TV I can feel a divorce looming!!

Infra red command centre received and........... it works.

Backlights now come on when equipment is switched on.

My wife can't understand what all the fuss was about but I am happy

Thanks for the info.

As I said in my previous post I have been considering remote controlling my back light setup something along the same lines as your setup. So all I have to do now is get the credit card out and give it a bit more air. (It's getting a little to much air at the moment.)

BTW Glad to hear every thing works ok.

I have a wallmounted LCD which is in a little resess and looks a liitle dark when on.
Im looking for a set of lights to attach to the back of my TV to give me some abient lighting.
Anyone done this or know of a good light source?
