Lighting for a Plasma Screen

Hi Folks ,

I have read on an American forum that lighting behind a plasma screen can enhance your viewing pleasure, it suggested daylight lamps at approx 18watts. But I can’t find the site now.

Can anyone recommend suitable lights/colour, etc?

What are you using to enhance your viewing pleasure?

The "compact fluorescent" lamps are quite suitable because they don't give off a lot of heat. You can place lamps either behind the screen, or behind the viewers - we have a 3-seater leather sofa, and I've placed a couple of 6W compact fluo's behind that, with quite good effect. Placing lamps behind the screen minimises the risk of reflections. All I used were the cheapest lamps I could find (small white ones @ £4.99 each) because they're hidden anyway.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply, while looking through the forum late last night I found these lights from IKEA being used - Lighting strip TRETTIOEN £21.00 / 4 pack - here is the link http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...roductId=11158

Anybody else have any comments.

You can try CCFL's. http://www.sharkoon.com/enghtml/illumination.htm
These are lights that are often used in PC case mods. Just connect the inverter to a 12V mains adapter and they work.
Going to use them behind a rear-pro myself. They are pretty cheap too and should last for at least 20.000 hours.

Go for the Ikea ones

Just 'installed' my new Ikea TRETTIOEN lights with my Hitachi 42PD7200.

They look fantastic and do seem to make a difference.

I went for the Blue option to be 'sympathetic' to my living room decor, they produce a really atmospheric glow in a dark room.

One other thread suggested there weren't many of these lights left, but Ikea in Wednesbury had loads in stock today.

Hi Gravy

Any chance of a pic to see the lights in action?

Cheers
