Hi,
I own a Sony CE595 5 Disk SACD player which unfortunately does not come with an option to turn it on or off via the remote control. Does anybody know of where I can obtain an IR controlled adapter plug or know of anyway of wiring in an IR switch into the mains line to control the on/off function. Please note I do not want and RF solution such as the X10.

Basically what I need is something like a IR remote light switch that has an on/off function but without the dimming function

Starting to look that way, seems quite a few would like them, but nobody sells them.

I guess I can see the logic in RF ones over IR, but with universal IR remotes being so popular there's surely a market for IR versions.

One of the types with multiple versions says that there is "Automatic self learning code" - I'd be interested in understanding whether that means we can set the IR code as in with my current light switches (so there for example, I just used a redundant button/code from something and then used that as the toggle code).

I had this problem and use a IR to X10 adapter (IR543 I think) and a plug in appliance module. This is controlled using my NEVOSL.

I also have a plug in appliance module at my SkyHD box to enable me to remotely hard boot it when it crashes.

You now have the ability to IR remote control anything using plug in or wired X10 modules.

I've been looking at this recently:

Apparently it can learn your IR code, and switch off whatever you connect to it. It's designed to save power when going to standby, but it could be taught to do other stuff I think.
