How to test 'live', 'earth' and neutral wiring?

Hi,

just bought a gang light with IR remote control.

After opening my house electrical plug, i realise the cables are not colour coded. How do i test whether r they live, neutral or earth wire?

if it is a plain plug u r on about then the top long pin is earth. If you were to open up the plug as you looked into it the one on the left will be neutral and that on the right will be live. (In the usual plug, can't be held liable for electric shock )

Cheers.
