I'd also like to know of some, preferable that would work with a Harmony 600

I bought the £10 set for the top of my tv from Ikea and much to my surprise the girlfriend actually liked. Although i wouldn't mind a set i could control with my Harmony 1100.

I got some from ebay, i _think_ it was these, but longer:
100cm 5050 RGB LED Strip RGB Flash + remote controller | eBay UK

I was able to learn the commands to my Harmony 885.

Why not buy enough to wrap around all 4 edges as in the photo attached to get a real 'presence' in the room, rather than a 'fluorescent tube effect' ? This is the 1500-colour kit, 60 LED/m.

For a 40" TV you'll need around 3.2m.

Supra

Where did you place the LED to give the effect but not be seen?

As close to the edge as possible, without covering any ventlation holes - see photo. The 50" Panasonic has a nice flat ridge about 1/2" wide on the top & left & right - just the bottom bit is a bit fiddly This is the 1500-colour kit.

Yes, this kit that I am using on the back of my Panasonic 50" Plama offers full remote-control of colour and brighness, and has a small power supply that plugs into a 13A socket.

The LED strip needs to be compatible with the LED controller (this is the unit that drives the strip). Most strips & controllers are 12V but there are a few 24V variants around. Also, if the LED controller is Common Anode (CA), the LED strip needs to be CA, but again beware, there are quite a few Common Cathode (CC) strips & CC controllers kicking around - you can't mix the 2 types.

The RGB (Red Green & Blue) LED's are either 5050 or 3528. 5050 LED's are 5mm x 5mm and will emit more light than the older 3528's which are 3.5mm x 2.8mm in size.

Then there's 30 LED/m and 60 LED/m versions of each type. I used 60/m on the back of my Plasma.

Thanks. Yes the RC is IR and compatible with Harmony remotes. I'll dig out a link.

Thank you
Copying my reply from a similar post hope this helps:

Is the tv wall mounted or in a corner on a stand? I use a philips living colours mood light which has lots and lots of colours and dimmable. Make sure you get the generation 2 as its the brighter improved model.

I have it on the back of the stand and the remote control allows you to change the colour and have it on a static colour or scrolling through colours at various speeds which are also variable.

Creates a lovely ambient light behind the tv.

If its wall mounted then its not suitable for you.

There is also a cheaper option in place of a gu10 colour changing bulb that comes with remote controller. I use these behind my sofa in a small desklamp Massive 66226/87/20 Wilson Desk Spotlight Metallic Grey: Amazon.co.uk: Lighting not as good or bright as the living colours but still bright as the demonstrated in the sales picture here:

2 x GU10 RGB COLOUR CHANGING LED LIGHT BULBS WITH WIRELESS CONTROLLERS - 3 x 1W HIGH POWER LED's FOR REPLACING 40 - 50W HALOGEN BULBS ** 16 COLOUR OPTIONS / 5 EFFECTS MAKING THEM IDEAL FOR NOVELTY LIGHTING, MOOD LIGHTS, PARTYS, RESTAURANTS, ETC *

Thats an idea of it but the same light is available much cheaper on ebay... 5watt bulb also. This is the link that I bought it from they are great.

5W GU10 Remote Control LED Bulb Light 16 Color 85V-240V | eBay

If you want a nice even fill around the TV/back wall/side wall/ceiling as in my lounge above, you'll need flexible LED strip. Check out my Gallery showing exactly these properties.

supraTTman, would you recommend using continuous strip lights as apposed to 4 individual strips to give a better effect. I'm looking at a couple of listings on ebay, 1 is 4x20cm strip lights and the other is 5m rope style striplight.
i was very impressed by your gallery.
Thanks

Thank you porrahman - all the photos in the Gallery are genuine, and have not been Photoshopped in any way to enhance the lighting integrity. That's why I left the last 2 photos in the Interactive demo unchanged.

Yes, I would definitely recommend one continuous strip vs 4 individual strips, otherwise you will see gaps in the corners which looks like you have 4 fluorescent tubes fitted.

ive spent ages looking for a backlight solution for me new TV if anyone can recommened a good solution id be very gratefull!

preferably USB powered so it goes on and off with the TV but that said i have a harmony one so anything that supports IR will also work just fine. THe TV is a D8000 with a peerless mount so the LED unit needs to be tiny as it sits about 5mm of the wall! but i can hide the unit inside the wall if needed as long as the IR can get in/out

Thanks in advance!

RGB Led remote control

You may choose RF led controller (not IR) so you may hide it behind the wall.
check well becuase there are new models of RF rgb led controllers with attractive design of remote control (selection of any colour by touch).

This is RGB LED technology which can generate thousands of colours - the LED controller DAC being the limit. If you check the Gallery you can see the lighting 'In Action'

SupraTTman

I have a friend who wants to illuminate a glass brick stair case she needs about 455cm of led and then 100-150cm of cable to the powersocket.

The leds in this link on your website http://www.4326chris.talktalk.net/mo...20brochure.pdf is this as bright as in your pictures?

Yes absolutely. In most of the photos in the Gallery, the LED lighting is no more than half brightness to avoid camera sensor saturation, which produces a while 'halo' as in post #21. The camera is a Canon EOS 550D - not exactly a budget camera.

I would recommend 60 LED/m strips if high brightness levels are required.

I've bought a set of these and having been through various backlighting solutions I can say that hand on heart, these are by far the best solution that I've seen.

IMHO 60 LED/m are completely overkill, 30 LED/m works perfectly for all but the brightest of rooms (but then if your room is bathed in bright sunlight you probably won't be bothered about backlighting).

These make the previous Apollo light tubes sold on the forums look a poor and expensive comparison tbh...

supraTTman, I'm not sure if you know the answer to this question, but the white looks a little pink on my wall (it's jasmine white so not a pure white), and some of the default DIY modes look better. Is there any way to dim the DIY modes as this doesn't seem to work on my remote?

I'll get some pics up shortly of my setup...
