Rako and harmony one

hi, in my lounge i have 2 circuits with 5 spotlights each. I would like to control these using Rako and a harmony one remote.

Correct me if im wrong, but to achieve this i need:
  1. x2 RDL500C (one for each circuit)
  2. Ravir (IR to RF interface)
  3. harmony one remote
so Harmony One --> RAVIR --> RDL500C

Is this it or do i need a rako control panel like the RCP07?

so Harmony One --> RAVIR --> RCP07 --> RDL500L

thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Rako and harmony one

The control panel is just a wireless panel to also access the RDL500 directly. You will need both, the control panel to do the lights when you go in and out of the room. The RAVIR to do the lights with the remote whilst you are in the room.

thanks for clarifying. I've never owned a harmony remote, is it easy to program for the above requirements?

I did some research on Rako and i found references to compatibility with Pronto and other brands, but not harmony which im more keen on...

Re: Rako and harmony one

There will either be re-existing codes in the Logitech database or you can teach the Harmony new codes using the lighting manufacturers IR remote.

Re: Rako and harmony one

The IR control of Rako is is dependant on the install and programming of the rako units not a discrete set of commands.... The Rako software generates the HEX for control, HArmony cant accept HEX directly...

Re: Rako and harmony one

A trained Rako installer would have the master remote that you could learn the codes in from, and the Harmony database has some codes stored for it. Pronto support is much better though with more discretes for scene selection and multiroom if I remember (I don't really use Harmony remotes).

Thanks for the tip HD. I can take it then that as long as all my lighting circuits are terminated in the scenestyle box then I can have virtually all the ONE room functionality of a rako system but at only £399. This could work out cheaper, but as a pro have you used this kit and assessed its usability

Did you find these limitations overly restrictive
All I am aiming to do is control

Zone 1 open plan dining kitchen

1. 12 kitchen downlights
2. 4 Above bench lights
3. Pendant over table
4. 6 dining spots

I would also like some led tape undercabinet colour in the kitchen but I realise that this can't easily be incorporated into any control system . Perhaps i could configure the switch to simply switch them back on and off and try to buy a product that remembered its last colour

Zone 2
Media lounge Adjoining open plan at 90 degrees to above

1. 6 downlights
2. Vaulted ceiling so 4 up washers
3. floor pendant

Would 2 scene styles suffice? Or would I need a rako

Can I configure the downlights in the media lounge to come on with the main dining kitchen but at a lower level with one button push?
eg Dining -Kitchen and Dining 100% Media room 20%
TV Kitchen and Dining 10% Media room 40%
I must apologise this smart lighting is all new to me

- It's fairly straightforward to add a simple DMX controller (ok, a fair bit of headscratching) controlled by Rako - there's a long thread in this subforum about it. It does start to get a bit expensive though, so you have to ask yourself if you really need the colour control through the scenes.

- yep, you can easily do that. In fact, I did! You can then change the LED colour by means of its own RF remote, if ou want or need to.

Cheers,

If you can live with the 4 scenes in scenestyle its fine. Rako can do more but costs more as well
