This may take a bit of explaining but I'm after a push switch similar to a bell push that can send a wireless signal to turn on a light in the house.

The push switch will be in the garage and will be pressed on when my electric garage door is retracted open. The signal from the switch must turn on a light in the house and keep it on until the garage door is closed the the button is therefore depressed.

I have been looking at wireless door bell chimes but somehow replace the chime with a light, does this sound feasible?

are you saying you want the garage door to be doing the 'pressing'?

To be honest mate i think your really going to struggle to find anything that will do the job as you described.
Firstly if your having an automatic door press the the switch it would have to be a fairly heavy duty one that could withstand the constant battering the door would give it. Not something wireless equiment is known for.
Also switching it wirelessly would mean the inclusion of transmitters, receivers and relays to switch the light. And then there would have to be hard wired cables from the board to the relay, and from the relay to the light. Not including if you want to switch the light from a normal position aswell.
Don't get me wrong there may be an easier way to do it, maybe the automatic door company have an intergrated system for there doors you could buy. But i've never seen one, like i said i think you may struggle with this.

You could probably just rig up a magnetic switch - rather than a pressure switch.

So when the door starts to move, the break in the magnetic circuit switches on the light - just like a door alarm works

True, I've never used any of these wireless products out at the moment do you recommend them? Do they last for a decent amont of time?

I see no reason why you wouldn't get many years of service out of them.

I have several around the house without problems.
