Wiring a DC line socket

Whilst trying to pull the cable for my one of my new CCTV cameras through the hole I drilled in the wall I have managed to pull off the DC socket. It got snagged in the cavity and due to using too much force the power wire sheared off right next to the DC socket.

The cable has a label attached saying centre pin is positive. I have trimmed back the cable and it has a centre red cable (positive according to the label stuck on the outer cable) and some wire braiding around that. The cable is a power/BNC and is fixed to the camera. It is only about 2 feet long so there isn't much to play with.

I can buy a similar 2.1mm socket from Maplins but wondered if they are easy to fit.

Re: Wiring a DC line socket

Depends how good you are at soldering.

Personally I would just snip the other sides connector off and scotch block them together.

Thanks, that may be plan B. I'll pick a socket up tomorrow and give it a go first. It's an excuse to try out the soldering iron that I bought about 3 years ago and is still unopened.
