This Thread
This thread is a spill over from our main thread which can be found here:
Lighting - TV/Stereo/Wall/Shelf Ambiant Lighting for your setup!

Our main thread still offers our neon lighting kits, remote control upgrades for the neon kits as well as other items.

Home Cinema Choice Review
We have recently been reviewed by home cinema choice, I have scanned a copy of the article from the magazine, and have made it available online.

You can view here:

Awards
The Apollo kit has been awarded a Best Buy award from home cinema choice magazine.

Re: Apollo LED Remote Control Ambient Lighting Kit! from neon-lights

APOLLO NEWS SECTION!

Today is an exciting day, lots happening and things are moving quickly.

The prototype Y splitter cable for the Apollo lighting kits has been approved, and will be put into production in the near future (after launch)

This means that the Apollo kit will now run up to 12 LED tubes from a single kit with the correct accessories.

We are also considering producing a 3 or 4 way splitter, which can possibly allow up to 18 and 24 LED strips to be used per kit, however this would require replacing the standard power supply and has not yet been approved.

You can run a maximum of 6 LED tubes per kit.

There *may* be a splitter cable coming to allow this to be doubled up, however this is not confirmed. It is still being developed and tested.

Would you think 2*24 and 2*15 behind a 42" LCD would be overkill?

Is the screen wall mounted, or away from a wall?

I dont think it would be overkill for either, as it will light up the area around your screen ok. Its one of the reasons for the larger tubes, to allow a mixture of sizes for larger screen setups

Re: Apollo LED Remote Control Ambient Lighting Kit! from neon-lights

Ok can you quote me up a kit with 2*24" and 4*15" (I'm using the extra 15" tubes to light up my AV cabinets).

Thanks

Dolph

Edit: An apologies for the number of tubes question, have just spotted the answer was in the first picture above.

Re: Apollo LED Remote Control Ambient Lighting Kit! from neon-lights

The launch date has been put back for this kits I am afraid due to a mixup with the packaging at the factory

Its now looking like the second, or third weekend in August.

I will confirm the exact date as soon as I can for those of you who have already pre-ordered.

Alec.

Re: Apollo LED Remote Control Ambient Lighting Kit! from neon-lights

I Have a 50" wall mounted plasma. Would 4 X 15" bars be enough? Do i place them on all sides to get best effect? (Or would i be better of going for 2 x15 to top and bottom and 1 x 15 to each side?)

Thank you

Hello

Can you let me know what screen you have? ( I can check dimensions etc for you then and let you know what I feel would be best for you)

Also, as your screen is wall mounted, how much space do you have between the rear of the screen, and the wall?

It is up to you if you light all 4 sides of the screen, some people only light up the top left and right, where as others light up everything. some may even just go for the sides. It is down to your preference. I would suggest all 4 sides, or the left/right/top combo

Please correct me if my figures seem a bit out, i dont always trust information i find on the internet

Width: 123.1cm (48.5")
Height: 79cm (31.1")

if you plan to light the bottom, and top of the screen, i would go for 2x 24" tubes for the top, and 2 24" for the bottom. This will be a snug fit with .5cm between the lights for cables, but i dont see it being a problem. I will double check the tubes to make sure there isnt any excess length (like screw holes etc) that would mean you have part of the tube sticking out from behind your screen.

Then for each of the sides, again, 1 x 24" tube either side. This will use 6 tubes, which is the maximum (at the moment) that this kit will support.

The 5cm gap is also plenty to fit the tubes into.

Re: Apollo LED Remote Control Ambient Lighting Kit! from neon-lights

ive had a quick look, the size is an exact size. so a 24" tube is an actual 24" including any plastic bits on the ends etc. so 2x 24" would be ok

Hi Stel,

sorry, your going to need to explain that one again to me as I didnt understand some of the wording you used. float a dude from starwars? hehe.

from the dimensions you mentioned, I am going to presume you are useing some sort of recess into the wall?

If you could just clarify for me, and I shall work out what I believe would be best for you

Many thanks

hi mate, i am attaching batons,at the back of the cast along the top and bottom and screw straight through into wall batons holding the plasterboard, this will put a 2inch space from the wall to the cast.
So i want some lighting to go into this 2inch deep space behind the cast.

I was thinking of 4 tubes spaced out from top to bottom of the cast centred.
what do you think seen as you know how bright these are, what width tubes, will 4 be enough.

sorry to be a pain, but wanna get it right without having to sell a kidney to finance it.

Got it

you have a 6ft height, now if you were to put the tubes straight, that would be 3 24" tubes each side.

You could use 4 24" tubes, and put them in a shape similar to the following

/\
\/

the only problem with this, is that you wouldnt have much light in the middle. You could get around this by using 2 x 9" strips, so the plascement of the lights might look something like this..

/
/ = 24"

| = 9"

/\
/ \
| |
\ /
\/

So, three possible solutions for you here.

4 x 24" strips in the 1st shape above

4x24" strips + 2 x 9" strips in the 2nd shape above

or, 6 x 24" strips, with 3 strips down each side.

You can always try the 4 tubes first of all, and if you feel that the distribution of the light isnt enough (missing the middle part) then you can always add on a couple of extra strips after.

Alec.

the only problem with this, is that you wouldnt have much light in the middle.

| |

Alec.

ok nice 1, so how much would a total set up for the 6 24inch tubes set up cost then......be gentle now

Morning,

The RRP of the 6 x 24" combination is £142.50, however the AVForums discounted price is £129.99. The price is inclusive of delivery etc.

Re: Apollo LED Remote Control Ambient Lighting Kit! from neon-lights

it is looking like the kit now wont be launched until mid august due to shipping delays! *sulk*

HOWEVER!!!

For those people who have already ordered, i have arranged for an advanced shipping of a limited number of Apollo kits, so you will get your items a few weeks BEFORE the release date.

This only applies to people who have already placed an order for the kit.

I will confirm an exact delivery date once it is confirmed. Expected within the next 16 days.

[QUOTE=Noodleman;5149816]ive had a quick look, the size is an exact size. so a 24" tube is an actual 24" including any plastic bits on the ends etc. so 2x 24" would be ok[/QUOTE

Thanks for the info, will get intouch when stock arrives.

Cheers

No probs. you may wish to consider a pre-order. About 50% of our first shipment has already been sold, and with some advertisments and coverage from a few home cinema magazines coming up, stock may be very limited around the launch date.

Re: Apollo LED Remote Control Ambient Lighting Kit! from neon-lights

Hi noodle, I have a 32 LCD so probably only need 2 strips behind the TV and one more behind my unit housing the kit.
Are the kits compattable with Harmony 525 remotes and if so how much will the kit be?

Hiya,

Sorry for the delay in reply, i spent yesterday driving all day

The apollo kit is complient with the harmony remotes, as the harmony remotes can learn IR commands. Simply teach the remote the commands you want to use, and your ready to go

I have tested this using my harmony remote, and it works fine.

depending on what size strips you would like for your screen adjusts the price.

2 x 9" included : £45.99
2 x 15" included: £51
2 x 25" included: £66

Kind Regards,

Alec.
