Fridge/Freezer Seal Warranty

Hiya,

The door seal on the freezer section doesn't make contact with the actual frame, so there is a 5mm gap all the way along the top of the door (the sides are fine).

This has resulted in massive build up of frost (frost free appliance). Phoned Hotpoint who say seals are not covered under warranty so would be subject to parts + £120 call out fee (to replace a ****ing seal!!).

I cannot belive this to be the case as they're saying that if on delivery it was ****ed I'd still have to pay this.

It's only just over 7 months old.

Crooks. Really are. What alternatives to refrigeration are there. If what they're saying is true i'd rather not have one as this is the second model in 1 year to have failed (the problem with the first one wasn't covered either).

This is probably due to misalignment of the door. The manual should show you how to adjust it so that all four edges are in contact with the carcass of the freezer

While the seal may not be covered under warranty it is likely that if the retailer was approached in a polite manner (without being called a crook or the use of the **** word) he may well agree to repair or adjust the door

I'm not so sure you know, as the seal at the top of the door kind of bows in the middle, so the outer edges are in contact with the carcass, but the middle is not.

I've tried heating the seals with a warm cloth but after time it reverts back.

I went direct to Hotpoint so my next point of call would be the retailer.

If the seal isn't split then it's not faulty and WILL be down to adjustment of the door.

If you need to replace the seal yourself, then have a look here Appliance Spares, Spare Parts and Accessories - BuySpares UK Price should be resonable.

Often an easy fix is to use superglue or evostick to glue centre of door seal to the door so that it doesn't sag

Forgot about this.

Engineer came out on Tuesday. Not the seal (at all). The carcass has deformed (bowed) away from the seals!

Replacement required, but discontinued but new model (to replace my one) coming soon.

What great news!

As a general enquiry, can they replace my 73 year old carcass 'cos I'm having the same sort of problems

Just an update (and request) on this. The replacement model will not be available until next year at the earliest.

So I need a 700mm wide fridge, but the usual stores don't seem to stock them - any ideas. I did think the Hotpoint Quadrio but even that's EOL now so I see from some places!

Need bigger fridge than freezer.
