Buying a new vacuum cleaner

Might be in the market for a new vacuum cleaner (how sad, never thought I'd be posting on here about hoovers!) and was wondering should I go for a Henry, after hearing so many good reports, or the cheapest Dyson I can get my hands on?

Dyson's seem to get good reviews too.

Owners of either care to comment/advise?

Depends whether you prefer upright or cylinder style machines and what budget as a Henry is at least half the cost of a Dyson, they are both good machines though.

I thought the dyson was rather expensive but 12 years later I think it has been worth it.

Dyson all day long. We bought one 2 years ago as we have 2 cats and continue to be amazed about what it can get off the carpets. You get a 5 year warranty with a new dyson and no bags to buy so great value in the long run. I didnt want to spend £250 on a hoover at the time but now im really glad i did (especially as i seem to do all the hoovering!).

I prefer the Dyson but must say there is a vacuum called Hoover Platinum which has better looking and more quality feel materials. Also the mini canister is a clever idea but overall the DC25 features more innovative engineering and looks. The ball design is just great by keeping the center of the gravity low and also the steering is good too. And the mini canister is replaced with a drawable wand which does the same thing - only with a bit less mobility. So it is really a tight choose, but I'd prefer the Dyson. But it's mine subjective choice. If you don't want to spend so much ona vacuum cleaner then the best choice is the Hoover WindTunnel. Good price and features. Should consider that too.

I have a Vax cylinder type, it's red/pinky with a 90 in the name and "Pet" friendly.
It's really good, sucks up loads.

My sister did have a Dyson but didn't like it in the end (although it did last a good few years).

after 5 dysons id look at aeg next time. our dyson is shoddily made and the seals that rely on suction eventually start to go, suction starts to suffer. Dyson for me - never again
