Oven heating element replacement

I am looking to replace a heating element in my Hotpoint EW82 and wonder if anyone has done a similar job recently.

I can see all the screws etc that need to be removed in order to expose the element, is it simply a matter of unscrewing the element and fitting a new one in or is there anything else I have to bear in mind for the job?

Thanks

Re: Oven heating element replacement

Not done a Hotpoint but on my Smeg it is exactly as you describe and couldn't be easier. Just turn it off before .
Mine has two and they go regularly, every 18months or less. The first time I got an engineer out but the second time as it was so recent I figured it was an expensive exercise and saved myself 100 quid

Re: Oven heating element replacement

I am guessing you simply unplug some kind of lead from the old element and reconnect to the new one, is it as easy as that?

Ah, a fellow Smeg two element oven owner , I bet you can do it in the dark by now?

Back on topic,

As he says, it should be really easy.

Ahh so it isn't just mine then
I inherited it with the house when it was only 9 months old and it went within another 3. If I'd not worked out how to do it myself it probably would have been cheaper to buy another oven by now

.... and it wouldn't be a Smeg!

Re: Oven heating element replacement

I had a little look today, only problem is the light fitting which apparently needs to be screwed off in order to release the back plate. I am either missing a trick or mine has jammed solid, I just cannot get any movement out of it

Re: Oven heating element replacement

I doubt it, my cheap replacements have lasted much longer than the originals did.

Re: Oven heating element replacement

Check also that the fan is switching on and off as it is suppose to and that the air vents are not blocked as that can dramatically reduce the life of the element.

Cheers
