Best Toaster ?

I know its sad, but I'm after a new toaster.. I'm think of getting the Breville Blue Ice 2 Slice. Has anybody else got this ? What do you think of it ? Any issue's

Oh and by the way to get the BSG jokes underway, I would prefer this toaster

But I'm sure the wife would object from her being in my kitchen

Re: Best Toaster ?

Our Tefal Avanti is starting to fade after 10 years or so. I was going to replace it with the current model but it feels very light-weight.

Current Which Best Buy is a Krups. Haven't bought it yet so can't comment.

Re: Best Toaster ?

Dualit without a doubt for me. All the bits replacable if needed.

We used to use them on the ward to make the toast for all the patients on a daily basis and only remember the 6 slicer breaking down once in 4 years (which is alot of toast when you have 32 patients and hungry nursing staff)

I've had one of these for 4 years. Total quality build, simple yet effective mechanism keeps it old school and under complicated.

Highly recommended! Has spent 3 months at sea from the UK to NZ and still works fine!

Gawd, I thought she was cute, but now I think she's staggeringly hot!

Anyway, toasters....

Dualit are of course the best, but having no auto timer kind of sucks. You'd better pay attention to your toasting!

I looked at toasters and found the ones with the very close (narrow gap in between strips), traditional wire elements were the best.

I found this one to be very good:

Re: Best Toaster ?

I'm in the market for a new toaster too, I'll probably end up buying the Dualit 4 slice (once I convince myself that a toaster is worth £160 ) but I'm also considering John Lewis' own brand, manufactured by Cuisinart, they have a three year warranty and the 4 slice is a reasonable £45.00!

Anyone have one?

Re: Best Toaster ?

Dualit or Magimix seem to get the best reviews.
But are they realy worth all that money for a toaster?

We have the Dualit 4 slice - upgraded from a 2 slice (passed on to my parents) when the kids starting munching toast.

I think it was good value (in the same way our Meile washing machine was) - expensive yes - but based on the last 10 years use, it has needed two elements replacing (£9) and one of those was caused by a plastic soldier falling into the toaster and melting . I'm fairly certain it will do another 50 years or so for say £30 of spares (assuming the clock work dies).

That gives me a charge of around £200 for say 60 years use. So less than a fiver a year.

It also makes rather nice toast

thats the point they dont, well not consistantly

none of the cheap ones i have used give an even colour, they also rarely give the same colour on different breads or the same bread twice, worse still they give a very different colour once used once

i like my toast to be golden and even in colour, my £40 tefal is rubbish in the extreme, all 4 bays on a cold start give random colour from white to dark brown across the surface on number 3, on warm start they burn everything unless you turn it down to 1

getting perfect toast is very hard, a grill is hard to beat

Another vote for the dualit 4 slice toaster, but make certain you get the model that allow you to adjust the settings for 4, 2 or 1 slice as you'd be wasting energy otherwise ;-)

It is definitely worth its money, I've never got even toasted bread from any of the el-cheapo's from the same slot...Let alone from any of the other slots. It is the best and works each time every time for quality toast...

Surely the type of bread used is a factor too no?

My homemade goes brittle when toasted but thick chemical white bread? Yum, yum!

It is a factor but much less so on a good one like the Dualits...I know exactly what you mean about the homemade stuff, yet now it goes perfect...And the thick chemical stuff that never seems to go off, at least the toast is now throughout and not with patches of white gue in the middle (got to say I mainly toast it from frozen which the Dualit can handle with ease and consistency...)

I don't think so, mine seems to churn out nice toast pretty much regadless of the type of bread you stick in!

Whilst I agree with the consistency, I do think it matters greatly what type of bread you use for toasting. Textures can be very different one's toasted. But the consistency of the Dualit's is remarkable, and nothing seems to be to tough to get a consistent even toast...

Some cheap ones may last, heck our Mahani (or whatever it was) was still working after owning it for 6 years and in great condition. But it wasn't until we swapped over to a Dualit that we realised what we were missing all those years. Of-course I tried many a time as nearly every catering establishment or club lounge has got them, but my wife always said how much!? for a toaster...Until I just got it and she is converted

It's a bit like a rear wheel drive car, you never think you need it until you have driven one...Then you don't want to go back...

Re: Best Toaster ?

Can any Dualit owners shed light on the following?

I would like a new toaster that has a baggle setting (only toasts one side)

However, I am confused about the options on Dualit toasters.

I can't find any reference on Dualit's own website for a Vario toaster with a baggle setting, other than the Bun Toaster, which I am not sure if that only toasts one side

or the cheaper range of Lite toasters Dualit

However, John Lewis advertise the Dualit NewGen models which say they do have a baggle setting - but these are not mentioned at all on the Dualit website -

Anyone know of a Dualit that does normal toast and baggles?
