Pointless gadget, buy it, use it about four times, store in cupboard as its too much hassel to get out, set up and clean... put away never to be used again along with steamer, foreman grill, juicer etc. For every gadget out there, it is likely you can already do a smilar thing with regular kitchen appliances.

Well thats my opinion, you are best off having chips less often, instead of using a gadget to improve your health. We don't have a deep fat fryer or pan, but I now make my own wedges (in the overn), they are a lot larger than chips, we keep the skin on and they taste lovely, especially with my spicey mayo sauce

The ActiFry is overpriced but its technology is brilliant. It makes exemplary chips, immaculate roast potatoes and brilliant crispy onions; with potatoes pared with a vegetable peeler (and manually spread out every five minutes) it makes crisps to make Mr Smith weep; it cooks good quality sausages beautifully and without mess - and all this with negligible added oil. I have had my ActiFry for less than a week but I am delighted, and I haven't even started experimenting yet.

according to the figures i have been able to find (300g is 1 portion for me)

300g of chips home made = 570cal

300g of raw spuds = 210cal

10ml of oil (is more than recommended for 300g by tefal) = 82cal

which gives a saving of 278cal which is alot! I can eat 2 portions of chips

I don't eat oven chips as every one I have tried is disgusting

This thing has suddenly become very interesting, yep its damn expensive but if your on a health drive (like me) and have given up chips and roasties it looks alot cheaper

I love the idea of this as my main weakness in life is chips!!

I havent heard much good said about these and it feels like yet another expensive gadget that would gather dust and sit in the cupboard!

people told me that about our george forman, just bought our 5th one as we wear one out every 12 months, still use our steamer alot as well.

People tole me the same about the George Forman also and imo they were right!!

Use it once in a while for toated cheese sanwhiches but its crap for everything else!

ours cooks everything brilliantly, bacon, chicken, burgers, sausages, lamb etc

only thing i don't cook on it is steak, got one of the big one mind with dishwasherable plates

My Actifry is used regularly and not just for chips.

The recipe book it comes with has some nice recipes to try. My favourite from it is the vegetable julienne one - but I usually add left over meat from the sunday roast, a tin of bamboo shoots and some baby sweetcorn. Makes a lovely chinese tasting dish without the fat.

Also, the chicken with pineapple recipe is nice too.

Best tip - if you like garlic but not the faff - buy some frozen garlic cubes (in the freezers in Sainsburys - have not seen them elsewhere) then halfway thru cooking your roast potatoes throw in a couple of the cubes.

Result is fab.

Finally I can eat chips, oh the joy

And yep it makes great home made chips with a small amount of healthier olive oil, I would say there 90% the quality of real deep fried chips and vastly better than any oven chips I have had. The chips are crisp but not at all greasy.

Its dead easy to clean as well and no larger than a standard steamer.

Well just had some and I must say they were superb!!

Took bloody ages but worth it as I didnt have to do a lot.

Just thinking about the fat content though and if you filled it up (1kg) it would be around 30g of fat which isnt that good. Even if you had a third of them its still not exactly 'healthy'!!

its a fraction of the fat of "real" deep fried chips, and you can choose the type of oil you want to use, not all fats are bad, the Mediterranean's drink olive oil by the pint and have a very long life expectancy.

also if u make thin chips you get the same amount of fat as thick chips, where as normally this would increase your fat intake

Mines been fine, used at least 4 times a week

It is important to check and clean the filter each time, I stoped using dry herbs as they blow about and clog the filter.
