Best (most reliable) dishwasher?

I can see that Miele used to have a ten year guarantee a few years back but can't see that still being the case.

I'm happy to pay more for 'quality' but only if it's got a suitably long guarantee to go with it.

Current one (given to us, 8 years old) has packed up and we can't do without it.

Thumbs up Miele .....product's

Hello dan1979,

I myself have Miele appliancies: Washing machine, Fridge Freezer & a Condencer Dryer, built to the highest standards.

I myself can relate to what you say as, I moved into my first home as of 2yrs+ ago and made the decision to spend good money on quality household appliances that will last me a long time.

Miele washing machines I believe still offer a 10yrs warranty on the drum bearings and I think its a standard 5yrs warranty on the product in general.

It's a great shame that Miele don't produce free standing ovens, as I would purchase one straight away....

Mind you it would take a few weeks to save up however, the pride of ownership of such a product would be worth every penny.

Sincere Regards

Hi you would think a simple appliance like a dishwasher, 2 pumps and some simple electronics would be reliable but my Hotpoint FDL570 (FDL570G) stopped working. So a bit of research on new pump cost (£80) and one google result on this model that the pump has a design fault.
Removed the pump to find the impellor freely floating along its shaft, where it reach the end of the shaft and fell out of drive. less than 2yrs old, cant find receipt so i just modified the pump and the dishwasher works again. I thought Hotpoint were a strong enough Brand but found most internals the same as Indezit and i dont rate them at all. Next time will look at Miele

Hiya Talosian,

Most other manufacturers use a concrete weight on top of the drum where as Miele use cast iron of which shows in the extra weight, and very quiet in use.

Miele is also a family run business

I have had mine now for nearly 10yrs, it's well looked after, and runs like new.

Sincere & Honest Regards

Need to buy one in the next couple of days, not sure to get a mid range bosch sms53e12 (£380 then £40 cashback) or entry miele ££££££££££

add:
Have gone for bosch sms53e12. Found a £20 off code in hotukdeals with coop electrical. So £380 -£20 and if cashback materialize -£40 with quidco, all in sub £315 for a better 'made in germany' bosch, with maybe 2years warranty as promoted on bosch website. Also in stock for next day, so won't be messed about.

Had a bosch slimline that was fantastic, now have a Neff intergrated which is a bosch internally, works perfectly.

Dad has a indesit which is absolute rubbish, the door switch burns out and causes all sorts of problems, blowing fuses etc.

We have had 6 dishwashers over the last 20 years. AEG, Bosch, Zanussi, Hotpoint.

My learns

1. You only end up using one program plus rinse and hold

2. The product will fail about 6 months outside of the 5 year extended guarantee.

3. The failure will be a simple rubber o ring between the pump and impeller and cant be replaced or it will be a rubber seal on a door that is press fit under manufacture and canot be replaced

4. I now buy the cheapest and simplest hotpoint or similar, at this price they are all the same internals and made in Italy.

5. If I can get a cheap 5yr extension cover, I will, but not if it is more than £90

6. When it starts to leak, I take them apart myself and fabricate a gerry rigged fix or part. I have kept my hotpoint going another year to date after it first started to leak all over the floor. This was a door seal failure that took a full door strip down (I photo everything so I can rebuild it) and making a new seal from a punctures truck tyre innertube, superglue, silcone sealant, and my trusty mole grips to press fit back into the metal u molding. Beware tho' these things have very very sharp metal edges like razors when you take them apart, waer gloves or be prepared for lots of elastoplast

Washing machines are more reliable and despite 2 loads per day, 3 machines have lasted us almost 30 years with some remedial replacement of motor brushes and door seals. Hotpoint or Creda simple and basic machines.

Sorry to disappoint Bosch are no longer made in Germany your model was more likely to have been made in Spain, but i still rate Bosch highly

German Manufactures are Siemens & Miele.

We've had a Bosch that's lasted 7 years so far. My parents' Bosch has just packed up after 5 years.

My old dipolmat dishwasher in my old house used to dry everything.

The bosch now seems to leave condensation on large bowls, pots and pans. Is it norm?

Only tupperware stuff comes out of our Hotpoint dishwasher with drops of water on it.
China/crockery and pots and pans are bone dry.
And if we buy extra-expensive tablets, the tupperware comes out dry too.
Sounds like yours isn't getting hot enough in the drying cycle?

I've never used Miele's washing machine. Mine is Bosch. My vacuum is Miele and I'm impressed how it works. I think Miele will do a good job for you

Getting my first dishwasher delivered early next week, just got a quick question about the washing tablets. Any particular tablets better than others or will like a cheap supermarket brand like Tesco's do the exact same job?

Noticed you can get a dishwasher cleaner too which you can use every couple of months to keep the dishwasher clean. Do people bother with that?

Sainsbury always have one of the named brands on special offer so no point in going for own label

I bought a bosch slimline model sps 6432 in the early 90s,a new tray insert and a couple of roller sets later and it still does two washes a day, just as well as day 1.you will only find out which is the most reliable after it has gone out of production, and then you wont be able to get one.

Dishwasher buying advice

I`m after a good dishwasher in grey or black.
I dont want to pay out the hole for one but I dont mind paying a little bit to get one that`s a good build.
I know I`ve read somewhere of some brands to stay away from but I cant remember them all, I think Beko was in there.
I see a Kenwood here its in our price range.
Anyone have any experiences with a few brands would you mind telling me, cheers!

My folks have got a Bosch dishwasher which they've had on the go for the better part of 20 years now. Only thing that has gone wrong with it is the plastic door handle coming off

I went for a siemens that had a free 5 year guarantee. It's super quiet and I've had no issues whatsoever with it. V happy with the purchase.

...forgot to say that I just couldn't justify the expense of the Miele relative to the Siemens. Paying that much more for a 10 year guarantee would basically buy you a second dishwasher after that time. Not a sensible choice to me.
