Are steam generator irons worth it?

Im looking for some advice on whether a stem generator iron is worth paying the extra money...does it really cut down your ironing time by half? What makes them so much more expensive to a traditional steam iron?

I have a budget of around £200 but im not willing to part with my money if it is worth buying a £20 one! Any suggestions on brand are welcome!

Thanks

Re: Are steam generator irons worth it?

well I can only give an opinion on the tefal express one we have - I think its a mid range model as lots more have come out now, and it does the job just fine and is about 2.5 years old now and good as new ...

...unless you do ironing for a living, I doubt most end-users on here will have come into contact with anything other than the model they use ...so its hard to say which one is best

Re: Are steam generator irons worth it?

We have had a Tefal Pro Express for a couple of years and my wife absolutely swears by it. I've not actually used it myself (wouldn't know where to start lol) but she's over the moon with it.

Regards Chris

Re: Are steam generator irons worth it?

I don't know about steam generator irons but I can recommend a steam press. Takes nearly 15 seconds to press a pair of my son's trousers and a full 10 seconds to press his T-shirt or pullover.

Examples here...
Ironing Press - Singer CSP1 MSP7 ESP2 Steam Press by Fastpress, Speedypress Elnapress and Pfaff roller press

Re: Are steam generator irons worth it?

Definately worth buying one. Been using one for over 15 years. Using the older one of LAURASTAR - system with active table, steam iron, high quality ironing very pricy but when you've used industrial irons that cost a couple of thousand you want something similar.

Another one that says yes to the steam generator iron! Makes ironing so much quicker!

Paid £90 for a tefal pro express 18 months ago, for performance was well worth it, although cannot comment on its lifespan yet.

Sorry for this - my experience with Tefal is that in hard water regions they scale-up badly and stop working. It is impossible to clean them out to prevent this. Had two and each failed (top range models too).

Now we have a Domotec Stirella from John Lewis. A completely different proposition!
Steam generator irons certainly ease the ironing chore!
