not quite a home appliance i know but we have gone through two 40L stand alone kitchen bins (one pedal, on touch lid) in the last 3 years. They have both been cheaper Argos and Homebase types and the pedal or touch lid does not seem to last long on them before breaking.

is it worthwhile going for an expnsive Brabantia bin or are they just as bad as the cheaper ones???

never tried anything other than brabantia for the big kitchen bins ...a few years old now, still working fine, more importantly the customer service is excellent

my other half broke the touch catch on one of them, I rang brabantia to buy a new one - they just sent one free of charge the next day ...this was after 2 years, not sure how long the warranty is ....

IIRC, Brabantia bins have a lifetime warranty.
The lid on ours broke, they sent us a new one no questions asked too.
Whether they are better built than cheaper ones is debatable.
But you can get spares very easily, for nothing (under the warranty)
That's got to be worth the extra.
