Steam Generator Iron

Does anyone here ( or their significant other ) us a steam generator iron as opposed to a standard steam iron ?
The reason I ask is that I wear shirts for work and ironing them is a right PITA.
Is paying £70 - £100 for a steam generator really worth it ?
Cheers.
David.

Re: Steam Generator Iron

My mum has one, but I don't like it, because there is a thick cable running to the base unit, which makes it more cumbersome to use than a regular steam iron. I'm sticking with my regular steam iron, and filling it from the tap when necessary. I found a decent steam iron is almost as good as far as steam production is concerned. Less clutter too.

Cheers MikeTV.
Thanks for that. I may just stick with my trusty standard iron for the time being.

Each to their own but I couldnt disagree more. I used to detest ironing 5 shirts per week and it used to take me about 45 mins. After buying a tefal steam generator it now takes about 20 mins and doesnt bother me at all.

Thanks DJMS.
Can I ask how much you paid and was it worth it.
The reason I ask is that they tend to range from about £50 to about £300 and want to get a handle on how much you have to spend to get a good one and what the dearer ones give you.

Re: Steam Generator Iron

I could never see the appeal, I can handle filling up the resevoir on a small iron and using that (ex-forces many moons ago, you soon learn how to iron a shirt in the Army LOL )

however the other half (who to be fair, does 99% of the ironing) bought one of these big steam generator things about 2 years ago...and she swears by it....she seems to fly through a pile of ironing a breeze, and nothing is ever a bother to get creases out of

I have had a go with it a couple of times just to iron a shirt in a rush etc when shes not around, and once you get over the initial size thing and get yourself arranged logically it really does make it easy - the steam power on these things really works

so yeah, Id have one if I was on my own, doing all my work shirts etc each week

Going back a couple of years now but about £150.

Whenever I'm thinking of buying something non AV related (so this forum isnt first port of call) I just chose a couple in my prefered price range, type the model number into Google add the word "review" and see what comes up. Touch wood, havent wound up with a duff product for a few years now by using that method....

Best of all its actually how I found this place originally

Re: Steam Generator Iron

Cheers.
I have been doing a bit of reading and most get good reviews. Just the odd one to avoid.
I will read some more then hunt down the best valued one.

Re: Steam Generator Iron

Update time.
Following on from yesterday's views leaning towards steam generators being worthwhile and reading some more online reviews etc. I went and bought a Phillips machine.
I set about my ironing last night and managed 20 shirts ( had been doing one at a time when needed so a major backlog developed ) in under 1.5 hours , including a fag break in the middle. I was watching the Champions League to help " man " it up a bit.
I have to say the ease of ironing has made this a great buy.
Thanks to all who posted and helped with the decision.
Cheers.
David
