Samsung RSH1DBBP Fridge/Freezer

Curious as to other peoples experiences with this model.

We bought one back in August which after a couple of weeks developed a strong burning smell coming from the fridge (burnt plastic infact). Phoned Samsung, who sent out an engineer. The engineer said the model has a new style element which was touching the plastic behind the back cover and when it went into defrost mode was melting the plastic. In the two weeks we had it, it had managed to burn through a large section of plastic. The engineer said if the element had been like most other models there was no chance this could have occurred. He ended up condemning the unit and we had it replaced last weekend.

Four days later the replaced model starts giving off the same smell ........

We now have a Daewoo coming instead Shame, as we really liked the look of the Samsung but food that stinks of burnt plastic (nevermind the possibility of it catching fire) have somewhat managed to put me off it.

Re: Samsung RSH1DBBP Fridge/Freezer

Samsung have a lot of bad press on the fridge/freezers they sell.

Having been in the market for a new model my self it seems if you want quality you really need to get an American or German built model but they are easily 1000+ more than a Sumsung etc.

I will ignore the advice above as its more money than i wish to spend and probably go for a LG model.

My sister-in-law has this model and has done for well over a year and she would not part with it.

This influenced us and had ours delivered yesterday, too early to tell what reliability is light but the water and Ice is superb.

I have noticed on Samsungs website they issued a safety notice in which they will send engineers to your home. The problems relate to two food centres manufactured 2005/2006 but it also lists other models outside of these dates and this model is one of them.

I felt a bit angry but on the website it asks you to input the serial no. and it told me that mine is unaffected. I'm guessing but perhaps the problem is the one the OP wrote about?
