Cooker names to look for?

I need to buy a new cooker but have no idea what names are good etc. I'm wanting a mid range one preferably gas.

Re: Cooker names to look for?

I've got a cooker that's quite expensive to run, and doesn't always produce consistent results. Not as hot as it used to be either. Her name is Andrea

However, if you're looking at brands, we have a Neff, and it's been in for about 9 years, and is still doing very well, despite getting a lot of use (5 folks in our house). But they're built in types, with gas hob & electric double oven.

If you're after a freestanding, my dad had a New World gas cooker for over 40 years, and it still worked. However, they got taken over in 2001, so things may have changed.

Re: Cooker names to look for?

have you looked at induction cookers, cheap to run than gas and electric hob, but temp control than gas. Bosch and dedietrich do freestanding 60cm cookers but they are niot cheap and you need goos quality steel pans like circulon 18/10 stanless steel, pans with no iron in them won't work. Boils water in no time, food is likely to stick because it heats the pan and not the hob, spills don't get burned on and easier to than gas to clean. I made the switch and I don't regret it. Between 80% to 95% of the energy is used to heat the pan whereas with gas and electric hob its only 40% to 45%

A magnetic field vibrates the iron particles in the pan to generate heat but like a microwave does with water.

Have a look at Leisure. They do everything from top end Range cookers to mid range free standing cookers:

Re: Cooker names to look for?

Just about to get a new kitchen and have plumbed for Neff throughout, 2 single electric cookers & induction hob.
Previously had a leisure single oven, has been great but struggle at xmas when having company.
Went on quite a few forums looking for advice and decided to go for the Neff range.

Not always. It depends on the model and specification.

Re: Cooker names to look for?

John, have you had a look at appliancesdirect? They have Neff ovens starting at £388.

The only reason I mention them is they have a reasonable website, and are quite reasonable price wise, but also, they're only at Huthwaite just down the road from you.

I had my dishwasher, vacuum & microwave from then when I worked just around the corner, and they have a showroom you can have a look at, and also if you can fit it in the car, you can save delivery, and they're open to a bit of haggling too - not much, but I got a bit knocked off.

However... that was back when they were Trade Appliances, and I'm pretty sure they went bust, but are now back under a new name. The new website does say 'new name for Trade Appliances', so they're not trying to hide it, so I'm not sure what the circumstances are.
