Nespresso Machines

Bought a Nespresso machine this week. And so far impressed.

I know people will say it is not a 'real' coffee machine, and that the capsules are expensive, but it suits our needs.

We did have a normal machine in the past but frankly found it too much trouble compared to the number of times we used it. Too much fuss, cleaning, etc.

But we still hankered after a proper cup of coffee instead of instant, and my wife in particular wanted a nice Latte or Capuccino. So we thought we would try a capsule machine.

Given the desire for easy to make Latte and Capuccino (and we were never impressed with having to use a frother on our old machine and taking it to bits every time and clean it) we went for a model with a built in Aeroccino.
So we got a Magimix M190 Citz & Millk

We have been very impressed by the Latte and Capuccino function. The Aerocinno still needs to be cleaned, but its less fuss than the frother. The froth was very thick and creamy. Just like a coffee bar. Well actually better than some...

And the capsules are of course less fuss than using ground beans.

We were also impressed as to just how quick it was. Once the machine has warmed up for the first time (only takes a mo), then after than a cup of hot coffee is dispensed almost immediately. I wasn't expecting that, so that was nice. It takes 80 secs for the milk, so I start the coffee brewing almost at the end of that, so that both are at their maximum temp.

I also think the capsules provide us with a lot more choice of coffees than we would have had with beans. Yes of course there is a lot more choice of beans, but we would never had kept a range of a 16 different beans all at once. (we also bought the Nespresso Club welcome offer which gave us 260 capsules across the range). These means we can always offer visitors a choice, not just our own favourite. Though I guess we will end up with a bunch of capsules we don't like perhaps.... but we can always ebay them it seems.

Which brings me to the question of capsules on ebay. With the 260 capsule welcome offer, we wont need any for some time. But is there any risk of 'fake' capsules out there? Or should we stick to buying them off Nespresso Club?

Anyway, if anyone is in the market for a coffee capsule machine, this one gets the thumbs up from us.

Re: Nespresso Machines

I work in Lakeland which sell Nespresso machines and to be honest they are very impressive.

I personally would avoid using eBay for Nespresso pods. There's a reason the Nespresso club has been set up and I think that you should stick with them as they're trustworthy and the customer service is exceptional. Also there are some Boutique shops around London and Manchester that also sell the pods so if you do need to top up you don't always need to ring them.

Re: Nespresso Machines

I bought a MagiMix M200 at the start of the year, and haven't drunk instant coffee since

That reminds me, I really do need to get another order in for some pods!

Re: Nespresso Machines

Thanx for that Loz .

I'm another long time coffee nerd geek ocd person here.
Keep me beans in the freezer and have a separate grinder to take what I need. Trusty little Krups machine (although I think their build quality has gone down somewhat recently, mine seems to be a solid little machine).

However, restricted to 4 espresso's at a time, takes about 10-15min to do the lot inc. cleaning up afterwards and chucking the used grindings (and cleanin the hopper and frother etc etc)......was contemplating something a little quicker (I want to be able to make coffee one after the other).
Coincidentally, someone at work recommended that exact magimix to me (for these exact reasons) the other day so your post has kind of swayed me a bit .....I think i'll look into one now. I'm only a bit apprehensive about getting the pods online, what the range is, how expensive they are etc, but I understand you can buy whole boxes and stick 'em in storage until needed (seeing as they're vacuum sealed)?

I'll check out the different machines this bank holiday.

The pods will keep for quite some time, as they're sealed. There are 10 pods in a box, and you have to order in multiples of 5 boxes. I just keep mine in a cupboard. I haven't found a blend that I don't like yet. My absolute favs are the Vivalto Lungo. Not a particularly strong coffee, but nice and smooth

You can browse the blends here: Nespresso Coffee Grand Crus - The Espresso Blends

Prices are 25p per pod for the Espresso's, 26p for the Lungo's, and 29p for the pure blends. It might sound expensive, but they really are tasty!

Re: Nespresso Machines

..and I am another of those that wanted decent coffee without the hassle, so I too bought a magimix machine with aerochino.
Everything Loz says I agree with, plus it means I can make a cup of coffee almost silently, so I don't wake the wife or kids when up early.
Worth every penny, despite the high cost per cup.

and they have a 'use buy' date of approx a year after you order them.

The welcome pack of 260 pods for £65 doesn't give you a great saving, but it does give you the free Discovery box (worth £20), in which to keep a nice selection of pods to hand.

We had visitors yesterday, and I felt like I was working in a coffee bar, I made so many cups.

Everyone very impressed.
Especially my young niece who had a couple of mochas that we made by adding a couple of spoons of chocolate.

I like making hot chocolate with mine. Just froth up loads of milk and stir in the chocolate powder. Lovely

Re: Nespresso Machines

Right then, just ordered this:

Magimix Nespresso M200 Automatic Coffee Maker, Satin: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home

...but oddly enough, it's actually cheaper (and gets delivered quicker) if ordered directly from the nespresso.co.uk site (so I got it from there).
Ordered today so hopefully will recieve it Tues/Wed .

BTW, that welcome offer of 260 capsules.....as I bought the machine through nespresso themselves, will I still get that offer or is it only certain machines?

I believe it's a welcome offer for just registering your machine, and placing your first order. Hence joining the Nespresso Club.

When you register your machine - serial number should be on a sticker in the box - you will be presented with the offer when you go to the online shop.
However, I guess you had to sign up in order to buy the machine... so not sure what that means in terms of registering your machine

It doesn't really save any money on the capsules, but you do get the free discovery box.

You also have to decide whether you want 260 capsules that are a mixture of every variety, or whether you want to just order the capsules you prefer. However, it is pretty hard to make that decision as to what you prefer when all you have is 1 capsule of each variety included with the machine.

So, I just took the welcome pack and thought by the end of that lot I ought to know which ones I like.

If you look at the range on the nespresso site, many are identical but just rebranded as either Krups or Magimix, but they are essentially the same models rebranded to either parent company.
Magimix sell 3 of these very similar models:

M200 - manual machine with a simple frother =£136 - the one in your link
M200C - semi-automatic machine (selecting volume is still manual, otherwise auto, plus has the AutoCappucino frothing nozzle) =£179
M200 Automatic - fully automatic machine (inc. lungo/espresso select and volume select) with AutoCappucino nozzle =£199 = also sold as the Krups FNA2

I ordered the M200 Automatic because I'm lazy and thought it was worth the little bit extra.
Unfortunately, many websites advertise the "M200 Automatic" but when you go there and read the exact model details it's usually an M200 or M200C they're trying to sell you instead (the sneaky so and so's ).
Also worth noting that the Krups FNA2 equivalent is a discontinued/end-of-line model so I wasn't sure what warranty I would get with it.

So beware if anyone buys these nespresso machines (any of them)....have a thorough read of the nespresso site first so you know what model you're getting as I've found many sites being a bit sneaky w.r.t. the model numbers they advertise as c.f. the model numbers they actually sell.

I have this machine (definitely the automatic), I love it. Hopefully you'll be impressed. I advise buying the nespresso milk container if you like cappucinos. You can just pop it in the fridge with the tube attached. I find decanting the milk into a glass to use a bit of a faff

The purple cappucino capsules (cant remember the actual name at work) are the best flavoured IMO

Think it is Arpeggio Coffee Grand Crus Arpeggio by Nespresso

Did anyone get a nespresso letter recently? They have a new limited edition one out called Singatoba, sounds quite nice.

Did anyone get a nespresso letter recently? They have a new limited edition one out called Singatoba, sounds quite nice.

Thats the ones ! They are strong enough to take quite a bit of milk and still taste good

Got mine today. Interesting to note that they are putting their pod prices up from 1st October. Must get a load ordered in before then!

Don't worry, like I said, confused the hell out of me as well . I was a single click away from buying an M200 from John Lewis for the "bargain price" of £137 until I realised that even though I'd searched for the Auto, that was what I would've got instead (I wish Magimix used better model numbers to distinguish between their ranges ).

Right, well I went back onto the site and the Welcome Offer wasn't there.
So i popped of an e-mail to Nespresso. They replied in about 5hrs , with a reason.....
....because I had ordered my machine through them, the website took that as my first order and therefore removed the option to buy the Welcome Pack .
However, they could tell that I hadn't bought any coffee yet , so said I was still eligible for the offer , but only if I did it via telephone.

So I rang up, gave them my membership number (which you should get after your first order) and they agreed that I could still order it, so I did via cc . She also offered to give me the online offer of half delivery costs (as I'd tried to do this online)
As an aside, their call centre is brilliant, polite, courteous, native English speaking, a real pleasant change from some of these utility bill ones anyway .

I should recieve my machine tommorrow and the welcome pack in a few days.

So if you want the welcome pack AND a machine, this is what you do:
  1. Go to the nespresso site and click on th club section
  2. Now set up an account
  3. Now, as it's your first order, select the Welcome Pack at the same time as the machine you select (welcome pack first, then select the machine).
  4. Complete the order online and you should recieve confirmation (you should only have a login name/e-mail and password at this time).
  5. Once Nespresso have processed the order, they will then send you a membership number.

If you still have issues, call them on 0800 442442 and give them your membership number......they'll sort it out for you .

Re: Nespresso Machines

Recieved the machine the other day.
I've gone from this:

(machine with hopper & jug, bean grinder, 2cup attachment, tamper, bean container, frother..... etc)

to this:

(machine & pods)

.

Here's what you get:

Also got the welcome pack of the coffee and book but they'd forgotten to enclose the display case ( doh!). Quick ring to the uber polite telesales sorted it (they'll send it today, should get it monday)

The coffee? Bloody marvellous. Takes less than a minute start to finish and tastes great. The only issue I have is that I was hoping to narrow down the few I like in order to decide what to get from now one.....but they ALL taste good (so I may just keep buying the assorted packs).

@Bursar, what's the Singatoba like?

Re: Nespresso Machines

Think Bursar was talking about getting a Nespresso letter Gaffer, not the Singatoba coffee. Although i'm dying to try it as some of the elements of it sound quite nice.

Think the Volluto flavour is the best, might not be to peoples taste though as it's not that strong of an espresso, but has a nice cereal hint taste to it.

Glad your enjoying your new Nespresso machine

^^ Ah, OK

On a side note, anyone know if those capsules are pure aluminium? If so, aren't they meant to be recycled?

(If so, I assume I can put them in the green recycle bins with the red lids?)
