Recommend me a tumble dryer please!

Hi there,
I have medical students coming to lodge with me at the end of the week and i need to get them a tumble dryer sorted pretty sharpish. Can anybody recommend me a good energy efficient model that will withstand a lot of use?. Looks don't matter as it's going to be kept in the boiler room outside (although it must be a front loader), oh and preferably come in under £200
Thanks in advance,

Danny

Re: Recommend me a tumble dryer please!

Comet do a good selection at <£200.

A few points:
  • They're not very heavy, so if you have the vehicle space you can easily carry it home;
  • Do you want a vented or a condensing one? If the former, you'll need a window to hang the tube out of (or get a venting kit to go through the wall - installation!! ). The latter obviously don't need that, but their capacity is lower and the tank will need emptying after every use.
  • IMO it's vital to get a sensor model, which switches off automatically when the clothes are dry. We've had this type for years, and they save a huge amount of electricity. On the Comet website, the Hotpoint TVM562P (£190) is this type, and there may be others
  • There's not a lot to choose between the makes. For some reason, Creda have always had the best reputation for tumble driers, but the Hotpoint will be fine. They don't work very hard, and I don't think durability will be a problem.
Hope this helps.
