Oven cleaning firms

How much do they usually charge for cleaning of oven at home?...Ive seen loads of vans driving round recently and am seriously tempted as our oven is seriously in need of a clean - and I am a lazy sod

Re: Oven cleaning firms

neighbours of mine spent about £30 (could have been £35) to have theirs done
- was apparently chemical-free and the whole thing was spotless and shiny

Re: Oven cleaning firms

Well, that's spooky. I only found out recently that someone I frequently see works as an oven cleaner so I had a good chat with him about it the other day.

He charges £45 for a single oven and £55 for a double. He's doing incredibly well and is making a good living.

I can't remember the cost, but we had it done and would recommend it.

I wouldn't mind betting that a professional deep clean will remain clean for much longer than your effort....though from your point the quality hardly matters when you are leaving it behind for someone else.

Re: Oven cleaning firms

My wife looked into this recently after a friend of hers got it done - it was £40 for a first-class job - the whole oven looked like new.

You haven't see the state of our oven, and - as Dony said - unlike transient students, we live here permanently and want a professional job.

Thanks.

Re: Oven cleaning firms

Before I let my house out a few years ago, I used a company called Oven Clean. They did the whole cooker (a range) and it was absolutely spotless and cost about 50 quid IIRC. They are a nationwide franchise, so you should be able to find someone local trading as them in your Yellow Pages.

I can't afford to pay 50 notes every time the wife decides to splatter the oven with lovely food. Tried Mr Muscle this morning (again), and while it does remove some grease, there is still a lot left. Heard good things about a product called Oven Mate, which is about 8 quid a bottle from Lakeland. Anybody tried it? Or can recommend something better?

Re: Oven cleaning firms

Why not buy a 'Pyro' self-cleaning oven and avoid paying people to clean for you ?
Okay so it will cost a bit more to purchase initially, but it will be worth it in the long run.

I'm sure a professional would do a damn good job, as well they should when they are charging for it, but you still have to do a decent clean to pass an inspection before getting your deposit back

Re: Oven cleaning firms

When we bought our place in the UK we used a company called Cookaburra. It was about £50 but the guy was there for a good couple of hours and the oven was a good as new afterwards!

The one product he recommended you should never, ever use is Mr Muscle over cleaner as it's a hideously potent mix of chemicals that will ultimately do more harm than good!

As for the reference to the chemical free cleaner, for me the whole point of these companies is that they have access to tools/solutions you just can't buy as a consumer eg. hot acid bath etc...

On a slight tangent, the guy who did our told me that he turned up at one house and the owner showed him through to the kitchen. When he opened the often he was slightly horrified to see that the lady of the house had assumed that the 2 inch 'depression' in the bottom of the oven was for frying stuff and subsequently had filled it with oil!!! Every time this woman fired up the oven to cook something she had 2" of 200C+ oil swilling around in the bottom of it!!!!!
