thoroughly confused HDMI capture card + DVDO EDGE

And all I want to do is get my VHS tapes to DVD

I'll try to keep it simpel in terms of my questions:

1. When I connect my VCR (let's say S-video) to the EDGE, will it do its noise reduction, deinterlacing, sharpening etc, in the analogue domain, or will it do an a/d conversion first?

2. I'd be converting to 576p, (720 x 576) but what comes out of the EDGE's HDMI output? MPEG2, H.264? Uncompressed? I'm totally stuck on this.

3. The EGDE's output would go into Blackmagic Design: Intensity Quality . What will I get out of that card?

Perhaps I'm just having an off day :-).

Be aware that HDMI capture cards cannot support HDCP.
This is due to licensing to prevent piracy.

Re: thoroughly confused HDMI capture card + DVDO EDGE

doesn't matter, I only need an HDMI interface on my pc because the EDGE only has a HDMI out. My other option is using a DV cam and firewire to capture as dv25-AVI and then convert to DVD(MPEG2). I'm hoping the EDGE processor will do good things to the picture quality. But I can't 'see' how to do this using the HDMI route.
