Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...5&page=1&pp=30

Looks promising, see page 10 of that thread for a pretty foolproof method of converting .mkv files to .avi files that seem to play very well on the Tomacro, the whole thread is worth a read if you're after a H264 media player

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Just a quick bump for this, I've been keeping an eye on the avsforum thread and it seems things are getting very interesting with this one. Definitely worth considering if you're after something like this.

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Latest firmware seems to have added .mkv support, if that's true this is one seriously cool piece of kit! Keep an eye on the avsforum thread folks...

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Also seems to do WMV-HD converting WMA 5.1 to DD5.1. An interesting post from the sales manager of gendvd :-

'So far our products LimHD200i sell very well in foreign countries and become more and more competitive in the international market. Our service also has been very well-received by our customers. We are very glad to see this. In order to explore overseas markets and to lower selling price meanwhile to save customers’ shipping fees aiming to better serve our customers, we sincerely welcome people who can be our agents. You will get very favorable policy and unexpected benefits. Any further questions please email us gendvd2000@yahoo.com Thank you! '

Anyone fancy taking him up on this, or at least investigating what the 'unexpected benefits' could be? I'd love to be able to buy one from a supplier in the UK, obviously I'm not in a position to do this but someone out there must be. Come on folks, this looks to be a pretty amazing media player, the fact it can do DVD .IFO and supports .MKV files in the latest firmware is pretty damn exciting.

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Player is not ready for consumption... Only handles 10% of the files w throw at it and only supports up to 720p. (Ther eis an issue with reading the timeframes from the files making it to fail loading as many as 90%)

It can become a great player with several updates but it is far from being "good" today... Let's not forget, by the time the FW is available, so will the EM8634 players and they can "really" handle mkv with the extra juice under the hood...

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Time to bump this thread now I think - I've been watching the thread on AVS closely and looks like most of the bugs are fixed now, play H264 files etc properly!

Shaping up to be a stunning piece of kit! Would be tempted if I could get one in the UK for ~£200....

I would be interested to see how it stacks up against the D-Link DSM-750, due out any time now.

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Does the D-Link support H264 in an MKV container? That's what I'm most interested in.... What's the RRP for the D-Link?

I have a dislike of D-Link, but that's a personal thing, had a few shoddy products from them over the years...

Thumbs up Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Hi,

I have received my limHD200i from Jon at Ripcaster at the back end of last week and I have to say so far I am very pleased with the box.

The first thing I have to say is that MKV playback is spot on. I mainly download TV programs from the US in HD and they all seem to be coming in MKV format these days and this box just has no problem with playing them at all (Heroes S02 E1 - how long before it is on in the UK?).

I have other video files as well in various formats (DIVX, XVID, TS, MPG etc) and they all seem to play fine. Fast forward and rewind seems to be as good or as bad as any other box and this seems to be down to the file format other than anything else.

It plays music and picture files as well but that doesn't really interest me.

If anybody is interested I will post more feedback over the next week or so.

Like I said at the start, very pleased so far.

Regards

Paul

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Have you tried any WMV-HD yet?

Does it play them with 5.1 sound?

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

I have some sample WMV-HD files on the box and they def. play fine. I don't have a 5.1 sound system at home though (HDMI through the TV) so I couldn't tell you if the 5.1 audio works, sorry.

If you have any files you want me to try please get in touch.

Paul
