Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Ultra - are you streaming or are you copying to the hdd first?

Have you tried any 1080P MKV's that are doing the rounds?

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Hi,

I downloaded some 1080p movie clips in .MKV format last night to test (ripped from HD-DVD and BluRay discs) and they played perfectly when they were stored on the box.

I also put them on my NAS drive (both connected via Ethernet to my router) and it struggled to stream them over the network.

One other thing I noticed was that one of the ripped clips only had a DTS sound track and the limHD200i didn't downmix the DTS track in to two channels and output it through the HDMI connection. I don't think really is a big deal to be honest as this is the only download that I have come across to only have a DTS sound track available plus it plays fine through my AV amp. If anybody thinks differently please post.

Anyway, when stored locally the clips played perfectly.

Regards

Paul

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Can anybody tell me, will the LimHD200i allow you to output video via Component and HDMI at the same time? The reason is that in my setup, my existing DVD Player outputs via both at the same time and means the connection to Plasma and projector is a lot easier :-)

cheers

Gavin

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

I'll test tonight for you and come back to you.

I have tested both connections but never together

I am guessing here but it might be just a case of switching the output from the setup screen.

Regards

Paul

Thumbs up Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Hi all, I've been reading the forum for a long time but had to register to give my respect for the limHD200i.

I got it from Ripcaster UK, delivery to Switzerland no problem. Been playing with it for a week now and very impressed.

I'm only interested in HD 720p content and so far it played everyting I tried. I didn't have to upgrade the firmware for MKVs - all play perfectly well. My set up is HDMI + Coax out to AVReceiver (7.1 channel with the full monty speakers) - everything encoded in 5.1 plays in proper surround mode.

Content is on the internal hard drive, had no expectations for streaming, but planning on hooking up a wireless ethernet bridge to it, so I can at least copy files to it wirelessly (PC far away for ethernet cable).

12 points go to Tomacro for this one.

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

Ultra238a a few questions if you have time to answer
I have a pinnacle showcenter 200 and want to upgrade to play HD .mkv

How well does .mkv playback when streamed from the pc using your router wired using the erthnet cable 720p & 1080i/p

If its not so good does it play better when on the internal hard drive?

if so, can you transfer the file to the hard drive from the pc using the router
as pc upstairs tv downstairs

again if it can, does it take long to transfer/copy say a 40min ep of heroes HD .mkv about 2gb

I so want one of these..... just so expensive

thanks for your help

Barry

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

The last thing I heard about the Tomacro was Mkv playback was pretty much useless as it could playback very few files successfully. It has problems playing back AC3 audio in the Mkv container also. It seems far too expensive for what it can do (badly).

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

interesting product, I've got a couple of questions:

I currently use a helios x3000 which is fine, up to a point, however it doesn't have mkv support or any useable wmv support.

what is the user interface like? on the helios its pretty abysmal so I'd love something better.
how well do dvds play over a wired network?
how do you control output resolution/rate? is it possible to output in the native res/rate of the source file?

thanks for any input,
owain

Apparently the latest firmware for the Tomacro appears to resolve the AC3 dropout within MKV files. The user community seem quite happy with it currently.

Not another piece of vapourware I hope, it looks very promising indeed, as long as it delivers on the promises set forth on popcornhour.com of course

We just need a UK distributor I suppose?
Dave.

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

This may be a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway.

I've been waiting for something like the limHD200i to appear, and from what i can see, it's seems quite girlfriend friendly....which a home theatre PC in the living room definately wouldn't be.

We're going to be in Thailand/Hong Kong over Christmas and New Year and was wondering what my chances are of picking this up at a cheaper price in HK?
Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks for the help,

Stu

Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

I found it on this website for around £220 inc 500GB HD which seems alot cheaper than elsewhere...

Anyone used them? Very tempting at that price!

Smile Re: Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player

I bought my Tomacro limHD200i HD Media player from only bestrated. I must say it handles .mkv files and other formats beautifully. There is a problem in decoding dts tracks however.

Watch out for the £80 tax on import charges that caught me.

Good buy, all we need is it to be imported into the UK.
