Sammy R7 HDMI Connection Problem

I have a Sammy LE32R73BD & have just had Sky HD installed. The engineer says that the TV couldn't support HDMI connection due to the Digital Copy Protection signal within the HDMI signal. He tried the lead & the TV said it wasn't supported. I must assume that this is correct (although I seem to be the only one with this problem with this TV?).

Do I need to use a HDMI to DVI lead to connect the HD Box to the TV & will this solve the problem. I currently have it connected via component but the quality will not be as good (?)

Thanks for reading

Re: Sammy R7 HDMI Connection Problem

Hello Tsunami

Your TV is billed as 'HD Ready' if that is correct then it is HDCP compliant and compatible with the 576p, 720p and 1080i Output options on the HDMI socket of SKY HD.

In general there ought not to be much difference between the Analogue 'Component' signal over 3RCA vs. Digital 'Component' signal over HDMI; though some folk find they prefer the 'sharper' look you get when using HDMI.

Keep in mind HDMI is an interconnect standard - its not a guarantee of decent image or improved image quality; HDMI carries pretty much the same signal as the Analogue 'Component' Output just in a Digital form.

Best regards

Joe

Re: Sammy R7 HDMI Connection Problem

Thanks Joe, I will be taking this up with Samsung/ Sky. I get the feeling that the Sky engineer took the easy way out when he couldn't get a signal via HDMI & strangely, the following morning, the digital freeview receiver with the TV appears to have stopped working (coincidental?). I am waiting for the Sammy engineer to come along about that but will also now ask about the HDMI connection problem.
