Network Media player?

Hi all..

After lots of time spent reading various posts on various Lcd's I finally decided to opt for a Sony 26s2030 for my bedroom, so thx to all who helped me in the decision making process, now I need everyones help again.... Cheeky hey!!!...

I want to be able to watch Divx/Xvid content on my Hdready tv without having to burn to dvd, I did some research and came across some media players,

http://freecom.com/ecproduct_detail....&ssCatID=80604, http://www.playengine.co.uk/index.ph...shop&Itemid=11 and http://www.pixelmagicsystems.com/pro...d_mediabox.htm

This is where I need your help, firstly, I need it to be compact as I dont have much shelf space, also portable with the abillity to play HD Content, would one with a hdmi connection be best? Could anyone help with info/suggestions?

Thanks peeps.

Re: Network Media player?

Hi,
Hopefully, I can help. I have the same TV in my bedroom and I had the same objective as you. I currently stream content from my media server (Windows XP Pro PC actually) to various places around my home. In the lounge, I have a Roku HD1500 photobridge HD media player, it's great for pure high def content like .ts files and is brilliant with VOBs (ripped DVDs) but will not play divx or xvid. For xvid and dvix I have a modded xbox running XBMC, this lot is ethernet connected (not wifi). In my bedroom I have the Sony TV fed by a Freecom Mediaplayer (the same as the one you linked to) which takes content over the WLAN. It plays all of the divx and xvid TV shows that are about 350mb with ease, but won't play the HD divx / xvid shows that are sized at about 800mb. Also, the freecom will not play any high definition content at all. It will, however, play ripped DVDs.

So, looks like the freecom can be ruled out if your objective is to stream HD content.

Learning from my experiences, you want a single device that can do everything, it's a pain getting up to switch the xbox on for some things (you can't power it up via remote control).

Also, you're looking for a portable player? There are a few in that category, the Tvix stands out as it has a built in HDD - http://froogle.google.co.uk/froogle?...-8&sa=N&tab=wf

Good luck, PM me if you want anymore info on the Freecom that I have, it's a great little bit of kit if all you want is to stream VOBs and standard Xvid and Divx.
Dave.

Dave, you said the Freecom MediaPlayer-35 doesn't support HD? I thought it supported up to 1080i? Is this not the case?

Hi Eric,

Although the MediaPlayer-35 outputs in Component, it doesn't actually handle HD. Freecom have a new player intended for HD - the MediaGate MG-350HD but it's not available in the UK just yet.
