PC to LCD TV (Sony W Series)

Hi,

Im trying to play some HD content on my TV (Sony KDL-40W2000) to see what it can do. Ive downloaded some 720p HD Demos which are .ts files. I am therefore trying to play these from a laptop with VLC Player onto my TV. I've connected the laptop to the TV via a VGA cable.

The laptops resolution is set at 1280 x 768, but when this appears on the TV, its really small in the center, so you have to make it fullscreen in the TV options. This obviously makes the picture lose quality.

The question is, how do I get an output to the TV at 720p or 1080p to really show off some HD videos.

Im really confused

Change the laptops resolution to either 1280*720 or 1920*1080

When the TV is connected, right click on the desktop and select settings, and move the slider bar to the desired resolution. If it isn't listed then install latest dirvers.

If your laptop has a DVI out then buy a DVI-HDMI cable and use that instead.
