No Sony HDMI1.3 TV launch with playstation 3

Had heard rumours of a simultaneous release.

Perhaps this indicates yet more Sony problems.

Or perhaps that it indicates that HDMI 1.3 is of no more benefit in a TV than HDMI 1.1 is - until deep colour gets implemented and since most TV's don't make use of the colour range that is available now I suspect it will take a little time before it makes its way to standard consumer kit.

Yep - given that 1080/60p with 8 bit colour is within range of HDMI 1.1 - then you'd have to need 10 or 12 bit colour to exploit the benefit of HDMI 1.3 in visual terms. As you say - given that you're lucky to fully see 8 bit colour on a plasma - and an LCD to a lesser degree - then this may not be a huge benefit.

There IS a benefit for sound in some situations isn't there - though this again may not be relevant?

Maybe on a processor but I can't see that being able to accept native TrueHD on a TV is any use unless it has audio pass through - then you might as well go via the amp.

Re: No Sony HDMI1.3 TV launch with playstation 3

Hello all

I suspect for most folk that the auto 'lip sync' on offer in HDMI 1.3 is about the most useful 'feature' until something very new in terms of Display technology happens along - mind you Auto lip sync relies on the actual broadcast being in sync; I hope its possible to manually override or adjust the audio delay on HDMI 1.3 compliant Displays.

Best regards

Joe
