Help for a mate buying a TV

Basically, he wants to get a HD TV.

I need to know what makes are good to go for... Sony for example despite being good frequently conks out. Other high end makes I'm aware of are JVC and Technics although I'm not aware of the longevity of these. I'd appreciate any other decent and reliable brands.

Price range £300-£400 or possibly £400-£500 if it comes with 5.1 surround speakers, anything from 21" to 32", depending on the best deal he can get, so if someone can fill me in on either any decent models, or just good brands to go for I'd really appreciate it.
