Only a guess, but perhaps because they are trying to capture the DLP market,
and I read somewhere that the most popular size of DLP RP TV in the US is now 55"
Also, as has been discussed/argued elsewhere on this forum,
1080p at anything less than 50/55" is a waste of time/money
unless you are:
a) planning to sit insanely close to your tv
or
b) possess 20/20 vision
In other words, on a 37 or 42 inch screen at a 'normal' viewing distance,
720p is almost indistinguishable from 1080p to most people.
This is why the only 'true HD' set in the Panny 600 range is the 65-incher.
