Right, at the risk of being flamed to death......

the 2910 scaling to 720p will provide a 1:1 pixel match for a 1280X720 display.

the poster who said that UPsampling froma DVD player and scaling on an LCD is different is perhaps confusing the issue (we are not talking about zoom modes for 4:3 material, altough it is related)

the important thing to remember is that if your picture is filling up the screen and the original material is not an exact fit (which is a near certainty) there will be scaling/upsampling whatever involved.

The reason that a "upsampling" DVD player such as the Denon 2910 with DCDi is usually an improvement is that the internal scaler in the TV is not up to much. This is why many of the illuminati on these forums recommend all manner of expensive gear such as Scalers/panels and SDI modded sky boxes.

It's always been the case that viewing poor SD material ona PC monitor would expose many flaws that were masked on regular CRT's, we are now just seeing this problem in the home consumer market.

Regardless if you are buying for the future you can buy a high def plasma/LCD/projector with confidence knowing that the situation will improve in time. If however like on eof the other posters said you are buying it for the here and now, pick up a cheap CRT or one of the new Sharp PAL fit TV's.

Sorry that's a ramble, but increasingly there are more questions than answers in the land of AV!

Yes if only it was true, it will work with some displays but not all. It is getting much better but is is still far from ideal. HDMI has made it better but there are still many displays that will rescale and FRC even with a 720p input. I wish it 1:1 pixel mapped with all but...we won't even go to the lack of 1280 x 720 displays outside of DLP.

I for one am pretty impressed with the latest LCD displays, I am far less convinced by the upscaling DVD players particularly the 2310 ones (I have 5). I view this as one of the weaker scaling engines around. I prefer leaving the scaling to the LCD which ALWAYS knows what it needs to scale to get all the pixels used. DVD players don't.
