If you're looking for a provider then Newshosting has my vote. I've used many over the years and this is very cheap (about £8.50 pm) and the retention is 40 days which is blinding. No speed issues either and carries all groups. Well worth it.

In my time I have used both Giga and NH (currently using NH) simply down to the cheaper unlimited useage price but overall I think Giga had the edge but the difference now is so small it's not worth the extra money.

What download speeds is everyone getting? Im on a 3Gb NTL connection using Giganews and am getting 320 - 380 Kbs. Should I not be getting higher transfer rates?

no 360 is about max and it does go up and down. Newshosting is the best I have ever used and I have used a quite a few.

Speed 10/10 - for my 3mb anyway
retention 10/10 most big groups about 29 days
Completion 10/10 never had an incomplete file
cost 10/10 the best unlimited service for the service you get

A great combo is www.newzbin.com and usenetserver. newzbin allows you to just click on a particular d/l and it takes the message id (which inc.s all the necessary files) it then d/s in your reader (using grabit, which is amazing for speed) and its then just a case of unrarring, htdtv-mpeg conversion and if necessary quickpar.

Im with bulldog on a 8meg connection. getting average speeds of 550kbps d/ls on most hdtv sources (this is running 4 simultaneous files into the reader at max). This means i can have a full dvd size file in 3 hours. Or a .ts hdtv film in 6-8. I just have a browse on newzbin each morning before work and load it in. Then each night i can just unpack and clean it up and enjoy the HD movie on my 42" pd7200 and dd5.1 from the denon and kef 5005 combo. BLISS!! Something always to look forward to after work.

Some great movies to look out for at the moment - Ray 1080idd5.1, Gladiator bev 1080idts, the forgotten 1080idd5.1, spartan 1080idd5.1 lord of the rings hdtv, alias hdtv, bones hdtv, us open hdtv, longest yard dvd.

It's a 3MB line not 3GB, around 360 is what you should be expecting.

On 8MB bulldog I hover around a fairly constant 867k/b sec which is as fast as I can get on my line (using newshosting).
