How can i enhance my front speakers?

Hello all, I'm not sure if it's the right forum to post this, hope you can help me. I recently bought a Denon 1909 to use it for music and movies in my B&W 685 theatre. While the HT experience is excellent, I'm concerned about the stereo sound produced by the B&W 685's fronts. They sound ok, but not WoW. What could I do to enhance them? I'm going to order better cables and bi-amp the fronts as my Denon 1909 supports bi-amp (use the 6 and 7th channel to do it). What else should I do? Should I buy a dedicated cd player to improve the sound or is it mainly an amp issue? I know that Denon 1909 doesn't has any pre outs, except for a zone2 function that allows to connect a separate stereo speakers, but is there a way to enhance my stereo speakers? Thanks a lot. Hope you can help and give my ideas of future upgrades to enhance my music experience.

EDIT: I use the PS3 to play music/movies

Re: How can i enhance my front speakers?

I suspect the quality of music playback is more related to your room and your amp than your speakers.

Yes, you want good cables and wires, but there is no need to spend a fortune on great cables and wire unless you have a correspondingly very expensive system to connect those great cables to.

First, for music, make sure your amp is set to 'Direct' or 'Pure' mode which by-passes all the audio processing needed for surround sound. That will give you the best quality pure music playback.

Next play with the position of the speakers. Your room may restrict where you can put them, that's very common for everyone. But cant or angle the speakers inward slightly to see if you get better sound in your normal seating position. Try moving the speakers outward toward the corners, or inward away from the side walls and see if you find a position for them that suits you better.

Next, how hard is your room? Lots of bare floors and walls? If so, you are probably getting too may reflections. You need to find a way to soften the room with rugs and curtains, etc....

Finally, make sure your amp is set up properly, though if it sounds OK with video, then you are probably very close.

Just a few suggestions.

What format is your music collection in? Are you using CDs, MP3s or WAV files? I'm guessing MP3, which won't help.

Regarding your kit, look at a good s/h stereo amp and CDP (or DAC).
