I've recently been bitten by the hi fi bug, and am on the look out for a second hand amp, with a budget of around £250. My dad has an Arcam Alpha 10, and when I tried it with my newly acquired speakers, IPL STL 5 on eBay, also Floor Standing Speakers, Speakers Hi Fi, Home Audio Hi Fi, Consumer Electronics (end time 08-Feb-09 13:16:44 GMT) , it sounded so much better than my current Cambridge Audio A1.

What alternatives should I be looking at, and how do they compare to the Arcam? I listen to Jazz (more modern, mostly from the last 20 years), of which examples include the Vienna Art Orchestra, Kenny Garrett, Esbjorn Svensson Trio, Avishai Cohen etc, and a tiny bit of classical.
