Sherwood Newcastle

Sirs, I have an old Sherwood Newcaastle r-525, receiver.

Bought in the 90's from Richer sounds

Can anyone help me understand why my LG LCD tv does not allow sound through the audio plugs, red and white ?

Is it becasue it os not Dolby Digital and only Pro Logic ?

Maybe somone could also advise if I should start again with a moden system and scap the old Pro Logic Sherwood !!!

Cheers
J

Re: Sherwood Newcastle

Are you sure you are connecting it right because the tv should have outputs as well as inputs cant see why it wouldn't work otherwise. An amp upgrade would be preferable but not really necessary because it should work.

Re: Sherwood Newcastle

Thanks for your reply, I think it maybe due to the cable digital box!

Very intersting forum!

Can anyone advise on whether a 10 year old Receiver can be made to sound like the modern Pro Logic 2's or near to them ?

My choice is:

Keep my Sherwood R-525 Pro Logic Receiver and playstation 2, but buy new Optimal cables / new surround speakers

or

Purchase: New Sony HT-DDWG800-NS38 System and scrap the old beloved items and move into the new century!

Best Regards
J

Re: Sherwood Newcastle

Does your Sherwood receiver have SRS Circle Surround? I used to have the R-756 (I think), which did. Similar to Pro-logic in that it extracted surround from a stereo source input. Don't think it was as good as Prologic 2, but it was certainly better than bog standard prologic.

As for no sound sound:-
Check you've got your cables connected to the output on the TV and not the input.
Check which input on the Sherwood you going into. It'll be one of the video ones if I recall. And ensure that video input it selected.

Eitherway its only a basic amp and is a brand which doesn't have much second hand value. I only got £35 for mine and that took a while...

What are your current speakers? We'll need to know if they're worth keeping. It maybe an option to just get a better receiver to go with your existing speakers, rather than get a complete new setup.

Re: Sherwood Newcastle

OK Thanks............I think my Sherwood is just bog standard pro logic!

I have Gale silver monitor speakers from about +6 years ago !

If i was to buy a new Sony system with a seperate receiver I would feel good about adding a blue ray player, in a year or so, rather than curently worrying about what i could be missing !
