Sometime-skipping Marantz CD-67 salvageable at a 'reasonable' price?

Sorry for the long post, but I'm in work bored, waiting for the weekend and wanted to try and explain the situation fully.

I have had the above mentioned CD player for 11 years now. It developed a fault several years ago which i never got fixed as 1) it was at my parent's for a few years when I only had university accommodation and 2) I now play my music almost exclusively through my Squeezebox.

The fault is that it doesn't like playing CDs when the machine is cold. This is generally not a problem this time of year (as long as the CD player is left powered on). But at other time it refuses to play some or all of the tracks - the CD player itself making a humming noise and the playback sound stuttering to a stop. The colder it is the less tracks it will play i.e. if it's really cold it won't play any tracks, if it is less cold it'll play back from say track 3 onwards, and if it is slightly less cold again, from say track 2 onwards. Once it has played most of a CD it is then fine and will play subsequent CDs fine until it has had a chance to cool down again.

Anyway I plan on getting rid of the actual CD player but am too attached to it (it was my first - and only - separates CD player) to send it to the graveyard and was hoping to pass it on to someone who could repair it and make use of it. I was wondering if there were any knowledgable folks who recognise the symptoms the CD player and, if so, whether they reckon it can be repaired cheaply. This'll then help me decide whether it's worth the time investing in 'getting rid' of it.

Thanks

Sound like the transport is knackered, tbh it's not really an economical repair but parts are avaliable.

If you're handy with a screwdriver have a prod about and see if the mech is still greased and the laser clean, has it been in a smokey/dusty environment at some point?

It's never really been in a smokey environment. Dust build-up may have been a problem, but no worse than an 'ordinary' household.

I guess I've got nothing to lose by opening it up, so will take a look.

I swapped a laser my hamfisted self in a 63 for around £20

Marantz CD63 Mk II KI Signature Problem - CD's won't read

I wouldnt say it was easy, but i would by no means class myself as a solidering pro.

It does work fine now!

Buy a cheap 63 or 67 off ebay that works then swap the transports over. A few screws, and 2/3 cable packs to unslot then put back in.

Thanks for the suggestions. When I get the time, I'll get round to opening this thing up and see how I get on.
