Linn Karik CD - power issues - any cheap cure?

I've had my Linn Karik/Numerik combo for many years now, supported by a Linn Kairn pre-amp and a Linn LK280 power amp. Currently auditioning a pair of Totem Arros (but that's the subject of another post)

The system had to be boxed up for a year as there was no space or room to set it up. I spent yesterday unboxing and cabling at our new house, and everthing sounded and appeared to be working fine, but then the Karik started to play up. Here are the symptoms:
  1. Stopped playing a CD, but green power light remained on - all buttons on panel frozen
  2. Cannot power on - power switch has no effect
  3. Pressing power on switch does nothing, but when powering off, the green power light comes on and then fades off immediately

Does this sound like a user replaceable fuse problem, or is his an expensive trip back to a Linn dealer?

Any help most apprecaited!

Up until the time it decided to play up, it sounded just great, and was a real treat after playing CDs on a Panasonic DVDR or Toshiba HD-DVD for the last year

Doesn't sound like a fuse problem to me, but does sound like a power supply one.

Best bet is probably a trip to your dealer, but the bad news is that Linn have now officially stopped supporting the Karik due to the difficulty in getting parts. On the upside, the difficult part to get is the laser assembly, not the power supply, so you might be able to pick up a cheap "for spares" karik on eBay and then just swap the PSU over, which shouldn't be very difficult.

Thanks for that reply: maybe not what I wanted to hear, but probably realistic!
