Hi all,
While I've known of this forum for a long time now I've never actually needed to sign up and post, until now. On saturday evening to my utter dismay I realised my rear speakers weren't working. I have an old Pioneer DC-z82 system which my parents originally bought. Now I realise this isn't exactly an amazing piece of kit but it's been like an old friend for the past 18 years or so and hasn't let me down until now. I really like the surround on it - it's great for live music especially and surprisingly good for movies even though it's only coming from a stereo source. AFAIK it's putting the L/R difference to rear. I think that's what Dolby pro logic possibly does, but I've always found pro logic (on the cheap plasticy systems I've found it on) to not sound very good. This doesn't sound bad at all. Anyway, the speakers check out fine and so do the only two fuses I can find on the main board which AFAIK are for the front speaker outputs. There doesn't seem to be any fuses for the rear speakers. Now I realise there's probably only going to be a handful of people who've ever come across this system, but perhaps someone might be able to suggest the likely things to have gone wrong. I was wondering if there was a dry joint but it seems unlikely considering they've just all of a sudden stopped working. If all else fails, could anyone recommend a cheap replacement system which would offer the same surround capabilities of this one? I do not have the cash for a decent system - the DC-Z82 was decent enough for me. To add insult to injury I blew my satellite receiver yesterday, but that's a different story. I've uploaded a load of pictures of the internals here: http://pics.rguk.eu/dc-z82_internals you can click each picture a 2nd time to get the full res version. Thanks in advance, Rob Edit: I got a Technics SA-EX310 free off a mate along with quite a good Tannoy centre speaker. It's Pro Logic and in general it's better than the Pioneer mainly due to the fact the centre speaker is the best out of all of them! The sound out the rear is ok, I'm still convinced the Pioneer wasn't putting out the narrow bandwidth rear channel which Pro Logic does (it didn't have a centre speaker). Anyway I'm happy with this. It would be nice to fix the Pioneer if I could anyway though - I need to trace back on the board from the outputs. Last edited by rjg_scotland; 07-08-2008 at 2:14 AM. |
