Cyrus CD 6SE - WhatHiFi review

Anyone else read this (or any other) review for this CD player?

I currently have the CD8 and note that Cyrus can upgrade the CD8 to CD8 SE spec for £350 - but there aren't any reviews out yet for the CD8 SE.

The CD6SE (according to the review) pretty much stomps on any other CD player of comparative price and pretty much, anything else too.

2nd - has anyone ever sent anything off to Cyrus for upgrade?
how long does it take and do you get a new warranty out of it?

Re: Cyrus CD 6SE - WhatHiFi review

Hiya
I happened to read it whilst 'browsing'.... to be honest, I'd take WHF reviews with a large pinch of salt... I've been a reader on and off for the last 10 years, and they've rather gone down the Top Gear route of 'entertainment' rather than objective analysis.

What I would say is that if they really trumpet something, it's probably worth a look... although I do wonder to what extent people are influenced by the mags... e.g. if one/several say something is really good, will people believe them, even if it isn't (the 'emperors new clothes' argument).

That said - Cyrus rarely make poor products....

Re: Cyrus CD 6SE - WhatHiFi review

I was just about to post a Anyone read this months What hi-fi but was going to be a general rant having bought it yesterday on the strength of this review. I have bought it many times over the years, even subd for a few yet don't believe it anymore, so.

Is the 6SE the best ever CD player no matter what price i find hard to believe but i wouldn't mind hearing it. I don't like letterbox loaders though, always thought it looked a bit cheap.

Other bits, the HDMI lead reviews, all prices all rated differently yet if i'm to believe this forum and others there should be no difference. i have three from 1m to 3m all were cheap and i can't tell any difference.

i can't just say the book is good, bad or otherwise. i just think take the reviews with a pinch of salt. i personaly can't believe what they say anymore.

Chaps WHF (What Hifi) is commonly known on all the hifi fora as ***. It is a joke, you are ten times better off on hifi forum like this and asking about a bit of kit over many peoples views than taking one subjective reviewers opinion about a bit of kit. Anyone reading *** through the years will know the “best CD ever” carry on. It is a joke publication once you have been in the hobby for a year, never mind 5+.

WHF love Cyrus more than beer and boobs. If Cyrus built a CD player that only played mono, WHF would still give it 5 stars.

Re: Cyrus CD 6SE - WhatHiFi review

hahahs mono cdps

Cyrus tandem decks where you need 2 cds and some sort of 17 pin din cyrus sync cable so make sure they started at the same time.

that going into two Cyrus preamps with volume /source sync

Well at least then you could claim to have full channel seperation!

not forgetting psx-r supplies as an upgrade path.

Wish i could afford cyrus.. Must be a great fun saving for that next little bit without starting again

Re: Cyrus CD 6SE - WhatHiFi review

Its all been said..........it trounces everything else Alter that to.........Cyrus trounce everyone though I am sure it has nothing to do with the number of corporate hospitality days, availability of continually rehashed products and advertising space taken.......no, no not at all.

Get your ears on...........vision has little to do with audio and opinions are like (well Im sure you can guess), everyone has one. The good thing is that every pound you spend on WHF supports another journalists beer fest.

Re: Cyrus CD 6SE - WhatHiFi review

anyone ever used the cyrus upgrade route (i mean, sending in a cd player to get it upgraded).

i was also curious about this - is there a new warranty for example on the new transport?

Re: Cyrus CD 6SE - WhatHiFi review

done it with me old DVD6 - to a DVD8 a while back - painless - a week with delivery time taken into account, assuming your in the UK.

Just had my 8vs upgraded to 8vs2 in Australia pretty painless - had to be sent 2500 miles, but worth the wait.

The CD8SE that i got Monday is still burning in, but it is getting better.

Re: Cyrus CD 6SE - WhatHiFi review

I have tried Meridian in the past and also used Chord, and have listened to Naim kit extensively and Cyrus do produce some very good kit despite all the negative criticism on forums, I currently do not have a hifi system but if I was to buy into it again I would definitely go for Cyrus as I love there sound.

I have no doubt in my mind that the new CD players will be superb performers !
