M8 the Zanden signature is well thought of but its close to 15000 USD

Its also got 16 bit dac's in it.

also the spoiler should be quite good but starts at 6000 usd and can go up to 8000 USD + ; http://www.empiricalaudio.com/

The most expensive is around 70000 USD!!

Re: DAC to match high end cd player

Boulder's DAC would also meet your requirements for something expensive enough to take your breath as well as your wallet away.

If this is a serious request for advice as opposed to who can find the most expensive DAC......

Zanden i think quote it as one of the "best DAC ever made"; I think i have heard this quote on all the high end DAC. My budget is around 1000 USD mark and around that mark is so many DAC's with all glowing reviews

I think this is always a problem.....what sounds like the best DAC ever to one person may simply not suit another, irrespective of price.

The best I've heard were a Levinson from a couple of years back, the dCS DACs,and possibly one of the Chords, although this wasnt as good as the dCS.

For the OP's information, the dCS DACs arent exactly cheap either.
