Speaker System for Computer

Hi,

I am new here so I best start by introducing myself! I am Dave, I am just about to move house and am looking to upgrade my current AV/computer setup.

I am looking to run a Shuttle Media Centre PC with a 26-32 HDTV. For my audio (this is where I get stuck) I am looking to connect the PC to an amp and then on to some speakers...

I really haven't a clue when it comes to what I need so I thought I best come here and ask some experts! I will be using this in my bedroom and it will be primarily used for music although it will be needed for film/tv as well but I am not as concerned about that.

My budget is around £500-£600.

I bought a motherboard that had SPDIF out. I then run SPDIF into my amp, and let the amp take care of all the decode. Basically, I bypass the soundcard on the PC.

Seems to work. My box downstairs isn't a shuttle however (it's massive). Don't know how common SPDIF out is on a motherboard I'm afraid.

Edit to add - if you don't currently have an amp/speakers, then I also run a Logitech system upstairs that is 5.1, and does digital decode by itself (so I can connect the 360). So you could do SPDIF out of the PC, and into the Logitech.

It's an earlier version of the "Z-5500 Digital", and I'm pretty happy with it. Not cheap mind you...
