Using Cyrus PSX-R to run more than one amp

To quote the Cyrus website:

"The Cyrus PSX-R is a 300W fully regulated DC Power supply designed to enhance the performance of the partnering Cyrus products when used as an optional extra. With its intelligent connectivity, the PSX-R automatically adjusts its output parameters to suit the partnering Cyrus component."

But, essentially, it does basically provide power via an XLR cable. Therefore, I was wondering if, given an XLR splitter cable, one PSX-R could run 2 amps. I realise that the 'intelligent connectivity' bit means that it does adjust what it is doing in response to the load unit, so you probably don't want to run a CD player and an amp off of one as they have very different loads. However, a couple of amps in a bi-amp set-up might be a different proposition as they'll have very similar demands at the same time. With 300W available total power shouldn't be an issue. Not so much trying to cut costs as keep the box count down to the point where it all fits on the rack! Any thoughts....?

I’m sure others on here could confirm what I’m about to say, so here goes. The PSX-R is a 300w power supply (as you said), if you split that between two units (example, two power amps) then that’s 150w per unit (assuming each unit draws the same). Cyrus power amps (6 and 8s at least) have 180w internal power supplies. Running two power amps with one PSX-R would decrease what was already available.

Well, I'm running SmartPowers which are rated at 105W running in mono mode so a theoretical total of 210W required. However, wouldn't a splitter cable effectively be wiring in parallel rather than serial, thereby maintaining a potential 300W per load?

If you ran them in series, you’d half the voltage to each unit. A 300w power supply can only “push out” 300w (assuming a fixed voltage) no matter how you connect it.

SmartPowers are still fitted with internal 180W power supplies (according to the cyrus web site).

Hmmm, valid points! Looks like I'll be back to my original plan of just hiding them! At least that means I can be less fussy about colour (always seems to be black ones kicking around ex-dem/secondhand, never the classic silver I want!).
