CD Recorders.

Hi all,

Can any of you offer me some advice please!

I am looking to buy a CD Recorder (Hi-Fi seperate, not PC CD/Rom). Using one of these is there any way to record individual tracks, rather than whole CDs, and thus make compilation CDs -same as you do with MiniDisc?

Somthing to bear in mind is that the blank discs for audio recorders may cost a lot more. The PC type recorders can record onto any CDR media data or music and both will play in a normal cd player. However the case at least a couple of years ago when I looked into it was that HiFi CD recorders would only record onto music cd blanks and not data blanks. The music blanks were £3.00 each at the time and data were £1.00ea. I think they claimed it was a tax on recording cd's that would be paid to the artists.

To answer the original question. I believe that most CD recorders have the facility of recording individual tracks. This is especially true if you use a digital connection. I have the PDR 609 by Pioneer and I can choose a load of different options including individual tracks. I nearly went for the Marantz 6000 but it doesn't have a feature I required which is to put in new chapters at set intervals (useful for recording off the radio or another analogue source).

You can now buy CD-R's for under 50p or CD-RW for as low as 1.29.

As above, I have the older Pioneer PDR509, it works well.
I use my minidisc recorder more because it is even more flexible. It is the Sony MDSJB940.
If I needed another CD Recorder I would buy the Pioneer PDR609.

So just for clarification; would it be right to say that this works similarly to a 'multi-session' cdburn on the PC? ie you can record a couple of tracks onto the cd, and then at a later date add some more?

Also, are there any issues to be aware of with cheaper models? I am looking at the Sony SCDXE670.

You can certainly burn additional tracks on the 609 on a CD-R prior to finalising the CD. Once it is finalised you cannot add to it. If you use CD-RW then you can alter at any time.

The Sony CDXE670 was, I thought, not a CD recorder but rather a CD player that could play CD-R's and CD-RW's (not that I know the player). But maybe you ought to double check.

WSC is correct.
Sony SCD-XE670 Plays CDs and SACDs.
Doesn't record.
Man Utd are from the North West of England, they play mostly at Old Trafford in Manchester, surely they regard this as their home, not Cornwall? Please explain.
Also what does "LOL" mean when I read it in posts, I have worked out AFAIK and IMHO.
