Aiwa XC-700 1 bit CD Player.....

I've dug out this old CD player from a cupboard upstairs, connected it to my Denon AVR1906 via optical lead and suprisingly it works absolutely fine.....it was probably last used 8+ years ago and until now I had pretty much forgot about it. My question is this...the sound through the Denon leaves a little to be desired so would it be worth my while buying a reasonable stereo amp to run this through or is this particular player a waste of space?, ie: have CD players in general advanced massively in recent years. If I remember rightly it did sound good years back through a decent Pioneer amp but that's long gone. Any ideas?

Anyone................? and whilst we are on the subject can anybody recommend any of the cheaper amps, not looking for huge output, ie: 30/40 watts per channel would do it.

Seems Richer Sounds sell a fair selection...Cambridge Audio A1 for example? The amp will be driving Mission M73 floorstanders.

First, play the cd through the analogue cd input on your amp and see how that sounds to you. The Cambridge Audio amp should be ok, but to chant the old mantra, judge with your own ears!

I guess you'll have made your decision by now but I've had an XC-700 for 15 years from brand new. I couldn't find a CD player within £120 of its £180 price tag that sounded as good to my ears. I partnered it with a Marantz PM32 amp and Mission 760i's and, though I've dabbled with a different amp and two different CD players (one of them an Arcam Alpha 5) I don't think I've ever heard a setup that made my jazz and funk sound better.
