Best CD Recordes for around £250 -500

Hi
I'm looking for a decent CD Recorder for my system to transfer all my tapes and vinyl.
I have no idea what to look for. I'm looking in the region around £250 -500max
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Mark

If you're looking for a CD recording deck, as opposed to a PC based CD rewriter, then the Sony RCDW100 would probably be a good bet. The Pioneer PDR-509 used to be pretty much the best CD recorder in the budget price range (I still use one), but they seem to be very thin on the ground at the moment...

If I were buying one tommorrow it would be the Marantz DR6000, heard nothing but glowing testimonials on that device.

Good shout, forgot about the Yammie.

Here is a CD/DVD recorder that is just out of price range but very very interesting spec wise :

http://www.tascam.com/Products/dvra1000.html

£969. But does DVD Audio recordings from Vinyl etc, other Digital sources very nice.

Be a bit cautious how you intend to use this one as "It records audio files that are ideal for mastering to DVD-Audio (DVD-A) or Super Audio CD (SACD). However, discs recorded in the DV-RA1000 cannot be played in a SACD or DVD-A player" and is a bit more limited than the spec suggests on a cursory glance.

Paul there was a big review of the Tascam in last months HFN, Note sure if it would be used as recording to DVD-A, but DVD-V wise I would assume 24 Bit – 96 Khz DVD-V Linear PCM is able to be recorded (ie the old DAD 24/96 standard) then playable in any DVD device. Also not sure why it wont play in DVD-A devices, will read up the review and post back some time. Still as for a stereo recorder that can burn audio discs onto CDR or DVD/Rs it looks pretty impressive. For only a few hundred more than CDR only devices.

The part that interested me was the recording of say vinyl, upsampled to 24 / 96 or 192 stereo then recorded onto a DVD disc in glorious stereo.

I'm keeping a watchful eye out for a cheap solution to transfer LP's to CD for in car and background music usage, so cheap is the operative word. But this unit caught my eye as a do-it-all machine. Check-out the FAQ link on your link page, where it also states;

"Q: Does it record DVD Video files that I can play in a DVD player?
A: No, there is no video on the unit and DV-RA1000 discs can't be played in a DVD player.

Q: What can I do with the discs?
A: The discs can be played in any computer with a DVD-ROM drive capable of playing DVD+RW discs. It creates UDF discs, a standard format read by virtually all computer platforms, including Mac, Windows and Linux. The files recorded are Broadcast Wave (.WAV) or DSDIFF (.DFF) files."

So for me it just became a pricey CDR machine

Well from reading your views I've got a choice between the Marantz and the Yammaha.
Read great reviws about the Marantz. Can't seem to find a review on the Yammie though.
The yammie is around the same price but has a 250GB HD.
But surely that must mean sound quality on the Marantz is alot better?
Is there any reviews for the yammie on the net? Or does anyone have this?
Thanks
